I'm editing a short shot on RED for the first time and have encountered a problem. The footage looks green and there are vertical lines through it when the playhead stops. When playing, the picture stutters or freezes. We logged and transferred using REDCODE native. My sequence RT preferences are Unlimited RT, Play Base Layer Only, Playback Video set to low, and Playback Frame Rate set to Quarter. My system is about 4 years old, and I'm wondering if it is not capable to edit the Native 2k media? I transferred some footage using ProRes 422 proxy and it plays perfectly. As I said, this is my first experience editing on RED so maybe there is something I'm missing. Computer specs as follows:
Mac Pro Dual Core Intel Xeon, 2.66 GHz,
number of processors:2, number of cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor) 4 MB
Memory: 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2
Bus speed: 1.33 GHz
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, VRAM 256 MB
Operating System: Mac OSX 10.5.8
Final Cut Pro 7.0

Hard Drive: 1TB GRaid dual drive storage system, (2) SATA II, Hitachi 7200 RPM
chipset: Oxford 936
using Firewire 800

Thanks, any help or advice much appreciated.

Hi,
Anyone with any suggestions? Could it be an inadequate video graphics card?

Thanks,

Were the drives you copied the raw camera files to either brand-new and empty, or freshly erased and reformatted? In other words, did you copy the raw camera files to "fragged" drives?

Did you use copy software like R3D Data Manager or ShotPut Pro to copy the files, or just drag-and-drop them from the camera drives/cards?

Do you have the same problems with the raw camera files on both drives you copied the raw camera files to, or just one?

Thanks Gunleik,
no, I haven't tried that, we just used FCP log and transfer. Was hoping to get it to work on my system that way.

Thanks Joe,
The files were copied to a new drive, and they were dragged and dropped. I'm not sure about your last question- the raw files are fine, it's after the log and transfer was done through FCP at Native resolution where I'm having the problems. I think I'll have to re-log and transfer all of the files using a lower quality, like Proxy, as this seems to be working OK on my machine.

Or better yet, transcode with RedCine-X. FCP L&T is pretty much obsolete at this point.
