  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCODE and FCP

Yes, the codec is RGB & Y'CbCr enabled.

Pliny: yes to enabling high-precision YUV, which indeed is r4fl or Y'CbCr in 32-bit float 4:4:4:4

Soon I will be adding 16-bit RGB support for things like Shake and a higher quality down sample for the lower resolution modes.

It was mentioned a few months back that the plan was to support REDCODE RAW and REDCODE RGB seamlessly in the same codec, and have encoding support for REDCODE RGB. This would allow one to set REDCODE as the codec for an FCP timeline and drop RAW footage in, but still be able to toss transitions, etc. on and render them, the render files being stored as REDCODE RGB.

Is this still a planned feature?

Chris: that would be very likely, at the moment I'm focussed on the decode side & optimizing performance and such
