Has it yet been said whether RC250 or RC100 will record at full frame rates on Epic and Scarlet to Red CF cards? Seems like a big jump in data that may be too much for the current Red CFs to handle.

Hi Dan,

The RED team have stated several times that those numbers do not reflect actual data rates.

That said I too am curious if the current cards would be sufficient, but I fully expect the answer to be no. There has been no official word because it is still a work in progress.

Cheers,

Steve

More so than higher datarates (though they are welcomed as options for VFX heavy work), I'd be interested in lower data rates at least as an option for shooting higher framerates. It always seemed a bit silly to me that media speed was a limiting factor in some cases for maximum overcrank speeds. Sometimes you may just want to shoot 120fps 2k or 30fps 4k on a 8GB or off brand cf card...

Also what is up with the REDCODE naming, on Red One, REDCODE42/36/28 appears to be based on MBps in 4K 16:9 average datarates, but this is likely to get very confusing with 5k/3k sensors etc. Does RC100 imply 100MBps on average at 4k 16:9? what does it become at other resolutions like 5k? I would greatly prefer numbers that are not tied to a particular shooting format considering all the format options or even that allow easy calculation or lookup of actual datarates at any frame size. am i crazy?
