Hi all,

Finding CineX has become unusable after upgrading to OSX 10.8.2. Tried both v15 & v16 and this is more of a notice about 10.8.2 as RedCineX has been ironclad for me so n all other OSX iterations.

Running 2 Rockets via thunderbolt, which has also been sturdy thus far. Tried all of the troubleshooting 'go-to's and if I can even get an image I can't get playback.

On the plus side the footage looks as incredible as ever!

Thanks,

Currently using REDCINE-X build 16 Beta with 10.8.2 on a MBP Retina and a Rocket via thunderbolt without issues.

If you email me at redcinex at red dot com we can go through a few steps to see what is going wrong in your configuration.

I am having issues with the same setup as well. I spoke to Kris in tech support today and he said the RCXP team had found the same issue already. Could you please confirm?

Specifically, the issue I am coming across is with playback and transcoding of large takes. 5KFF 7:1 that spans more than 3 R3D files chokes, gives errors when exporting, and causes RCXP 16 to freeze/crash. The first error I get in the status pane is a long message ending with "bufferSize: 0x00B1E400 RowBytes:11520 RocketStatus: 4 DecodeError: 852056 - Failed to decode (Corrupt Frame?)" several times and then it changes to thousands of errors (one for each frame): "bufferSize: 0x00B1E400 RowBytes:11520 RocketStatus: 5 DecodeError: 196610 - Out of Memory".

Transcoding and playback with Rocket disabled works with no issues. Tried reinstalling drivers, reinstalling RCXP, removing the Rocket the reinstalling, reinstall Rocket firmware, everything. Ended up installing OS X 10.8.1 on top of 10.8.2 to downgrade the OS and that fixed it.

Note that I could transcode shots that spanned as many as 3 R3D files, but anything beyond that causes the errors. Everything was working perfectly yesterday minutes before upgrading to 10.8.2. Working with several shots that span as many as 10 R3Ds. Same footage that could be transcoded prior to the upgrade would not transcode after the upgrade. New shots that would not transcode with the OS at 10.8.2 transcode perfectly after downgrading the OS to 10.8.1.

We're investigating this issue. Unfortunately for now we'd advice everyone to NOT upgrade to 10.8.2

Mike: are you decoding at full res? Could we get a copy of this clip to test with? you can email us at redcinex at red dot com

When attempting playback if I try to load a clip in the viewer at the default 1/2 nothing will load. Switch to 1/16 and they'll load. For the exporting I'm going to 1920x1080 Prores LT files and the rocket only does full debayer for that.

This happens with shots from 2 different cameras. Epic-M with 3.2.21 firmware and Epic-X with 3.3.12 beta firmware (for Pro I/O compatibility). All shots play in camera with zero issues. It does it with any shots from either camera, even from previous days that decoded and exported with no issues under 10.8.1, so I don't know what good sending footage will do. Just make sure you shoot something that's a long take with lower compression (we're shooting 5KFF 7:1) so it spans a lot of times. 5 or more minutes should do it. I'd have to get permission from the producers to send any of the footage and they'll probably say no since they know I have everything working again now.

I'm having troubles with just getting my 15" MBP to recognize the rocket in version 10.8.2. Brand new card and setup, using the Sonnet Echo Express Pro via thunderbolt. When I first plug the rocket into the chassis and boot up the MBP recognizes the card, yet when I try to install the RR driver and reboot the card disappears. Is this issue also connected with the apple update?
