Hi, I am currently shooting a large stills campaign on Red, using Redcine-x to export Tiff snapshots. We are using build 44 as the newer build crashes everytime we snapshot (OSX). We also cannot find any reference to advancing frame by frame using the keyboard, which would make life a lot easier as we are working portrait and have to have the viewer on a seperate monitor turned 90 degrees.

Could I also make a feature request for handling of portrait material (e.g. camera turned 90 degrees) in post in a future version.

Thanks, and keep up the good work.

Neil.

The latest build of RedCineX does allow frame jogging with the arrow keys, but obviously if you can't use that build for other reasons then that doesn't help you.

RocketCine-X does have portrait mode, and Deanan has said that all RocketCine-X functionality will eventually be available in RedCine-X, so I guess in future you will have portrait. Again, doesn't help you now though!

Thanks for the replys, great to hear that the frame jog is in the latest version! Hopefully the next release of cineX will stop the crashing and RED Rocket™ is on our to do list, so maybe that will solve all the issues.

In terms of Red Cine, we were using that when we started this last November, but found red cine x better for our stills workflow.

I have tried to export stills in CineX running Windows XP and the program crashes everytime. Is there anything I can try?

yes, me too...I can take 2 maybe 3 stills from footage before the program crashes.

Hope it's fixed on the next version!

Jim has just posted a new build of RedCine-X in his new tips thread, it solves all our issues, no more crashing and now we can jog frame by frame, Thanks!

In addition it gives access the new Red Color and Red Gamma, which has helped our image quality, plus there are basic grading tools which are also a welcome addition.

I will be shooting tomorrow and using this new build so I will report back on any issues.

Neil.
