  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X V2

I wouldn't be surprised if they offered a new discount on Magic Bullet Looks once they officially announce RCX compatibility...

Deanan, are there any plans on adding keyframe capabilities to RCX in the future ?

Absolutely need keyframing please!!!!

+1000!

I asked about it several posts back. It may be beyond the current scope of development, but definitely something that needs to work its way in at some point.

It's an updated version of REDLINE that now supports the RED Rocket and updated color science. If you are not currently using REDLINE, then it probably isn't something you will use. REDLINE is for command-line rendering, network render managers, etc.. You can replace the old version of REDLINE with it and get ROCKET acceleration under RedRushes. Although RedRushes doesn't have selectors for the new color space, etc.., so IMO that's kinda moot. Old REDCINE, RED ALERT and REDRUSHES are EOL and no longer being developed.

RGB Curves:

RGB curves do amazing things.

Great work Deanan and the whole RED Cine Software team. Nice one Omar!

Yes to Wave and Also Euphonix MC Color now.

REDcineX Does everything in 16bit/float but can output 8/10/16 bits.

The images on the computer monitor go out at 8bit because that's all DVI supports (at least 99%).

What about support for Display Port?

Played around with the latest version of redcine x for grading some dailies. I noticed that the still store does not seem to function properly when monitoring with an external monitor using the rocket. Is this the case for others or just an issue with the system i was on? Still store worked fine when I was not monitoring externally. This was a major disappointment for me. Why even bother with a still store if you can only see it on a computer monitor?

Big improvement on the interface, but one of my favourite user interface experiences has been using the Discreet family of products, Smoke/Flame/Combustion. Everything is just there in logical steps of application, mouse or tablet. <1999 ish, Paint and Effect was all about multiple windows and similar to what we saw in RedCineX till build 194. Took a while for Oxygen/Combustion to come out, but it was all based on Smoke's great interface. I'd like to see something similar in terms of overall interface refinement for RedcineX. Not a blatant rip off, but I found it a very fast way of working. Redcine X was needing more pixel real estate. which is clearly why you guys have done what you have to streamline. I don't feel one should have a different user experience form using a laptop to a desktop. You're obviously going to strain the eyes a lot more on a 17" 1920 laptop screen, if you have to work that way over a number of days. Up unti I stopped using it, I still found Combustion comfortable to work with on the eyes with a 1280 laptop.

And before I get jumped on, I'm mererly refering to the interface, the aforementioned applications are obviously very different for purpose and design.

Basing an application for the intuative purpose of panel integration takes some extra thought. I'm not crictisiing, liking how things have moved on in a very short time frame. Its becoming very comprehensive in feature set for a freebie application.

When Magic Bullet and other module based functionality become public, I hpoe it won't mean another series of control panels taking over the desktop. It would be nice to design an interface which would work comfortably within one desktop.

Still store is not finished for rocket yet as it's very complicated to get it working through rocket.

We could have waited another month to get a beta out to people to play with and get feedback. That's why we bother.

Great to hear that the still store is being worked on to function through the rocket. Im really looking forward to this implementation.

I'm really impressed with you guys being able to pull this off. My limited understanding of the rocket caused me to believe that this may not be possible as the rocket was meant to do only really a few things, which it does so well.

I had thought you may have to utilize a Blackmagic or Kona card in conjunction with the rocket to pull it off.

Good work.

great stuff!

I did find a bug tho (sorry if that's been mentioned before). If I try to load a clip using the menue file -> open clip (or any other "open" function, actually), nothing happens. clips only load when loaded through the browser...

Deanan,

I can't thank you enough for all the work you're doing, and how much better REDCINE-X keeps getting. You and your team are amazing...but, "pretty please with sugar on top" give us the Windows version already!"...we work both on Mac and Windows, but right now we're doing a project in our PC (which I think you'll enjoy...I'll send it to you or post it as soon as it's done) and need the new RCX. We could use the last version, but who wants to do that when a such a kick ass version is being enjoyed by others...haha.

Thank you in advance,

Yecid Jr.

sorry if i misunderstood but is the modules bin available with build 221?? or is it yet to come?? I don't see it in my copy :0(

deanan, is there any discussion about a linux version in the works, at least for the official releases?

if not, can there be? there's quite a few of us that could benefit from a proper linux build.

finally figured out the how to import my fcp xml using the lua script funtion...now the challenge I'm facing is the control sensitivity when changing color params. the results are cool but the usability of actual controls feel hampered. How are folks finding the controls?

...And your efforts are really appreciated. Great work Deanan

Bug report build 221

Bug report build 221

Deanan:
i reported on a problem earlier with clips in the latest build of 221 using my redrocket card out via HD-SDI out....the clips do not play in full. The viewer head shows that they have played to the end of the clip and the counter even displays the full number of frames, but if i move the playhead back slightly i can see the end of the clip--that was never played in the viewer and output ot my color correction monitor.

NOW---if i DE-SELECT my external monitor and play the same clip within my normal viewing monitor (and don't output via HD-SDI) i can view the entire clip and it plays normally within the redcine-x viewer.

Wanted to bring this to the attention of the red team. Can you confirm you have received this notice.....or if you already have discovered this bug.

EDIT: this only seems to happen when i choose PsF. So, i have now chosen my setup for monitor as: 1920 x 1080; RGB 10 ; 29.97 or 23.98 (depending on format shot); and am NOT choosing PsF....This is all output via HD-SDI to an AJA Hi5-3G and then output via HDMI to dreamcolor monitor.

MC Color support

MC Color support

hey guys-
just tested out the MC Color with RedCine X 221.

I'm sure it's in the works, but do you have any idea when the trackballs/trackwheels will work with the Lift:Gamma:Gain?

And i assume it's coming, and it's probably been asked so i apologize, but will there be the option to break out a panel to a floating window?

thanks!
