This thread is meant to collect and display anyone's imaginative ideas for modules that could be made for use with the new, kick-ass version of REDCine-X that allows 3rd party modules.

The single greatest thing about RED is the attitude of the community, and the fact that ideas are listened to, and products and features developed based on some great ideas coming from this community.

So.....go ahead.....let your mind run wild. Throw down some ideas for REDCine-X modules here in this thread. And who knows, hopefully some smart wizards out there like Hans, Ian, Jamie, Konrad, Nigel, and many others, will roll up their sleeves and make some of them come true.

And for developers, feel free to germinate your ideas here in this thread and get input from users. or simply announce your new releases here.

This thread is meant to be all about REDCine-X modules. Let the games begin........

I'll get the ball rolling. Some quick ideas for modules:

1. Some great scope tools.

2. Secondaries for grading (obvious I know).

3. A 'dropped frames RED flag' module. This tool would display a huge RED flag overtop of ANY clip that has any dropped frame anywhere within the clip. then, show a 'drop' box like on the RED LCD with the number of dropped frames present in this 'active' clip. this would rock, as it would allow any clip with dropped frames to immediately be recognized via the RED flag displayed over the clip. then, click the RED flag to toggle 'off' and look at the box that would say 'Drop 17'. Then, go through and find the 17 dropped frames. This would be awesome for DITs to quickly flag and find clips with dropped frames that may have been missed on set during recording.

-Power Windows,
-3d trackers,
-Film looks,
-Autobalance
-Mulitple or unlimited secondaries
-Speed changer
-XML input output (clipfinder kinda does this)
-Distributed network rendering
-denoise
-unsharp mask
-invert
-B&W
-keyframing for crops
-Keyframing for color correction
-decompose and consolidate media tool
-integrated checksums for above

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head.

Someone mentioned timelines. Not sure if that is possible as a module, but anything to make Cine-X more of a NLE, turn it into a one-stop-shop with all cutting and grading power necessary.

Framebuffer output

Framebuffer output

Why not a framebuffer output option for us
Decklink / Blackmagic users so we can preview
HD-output on our existing HDMI/SDI monitors?

shakey

shakey

fix shakey camera plugin.

would be nice to have it right there when doing the first steps.

a denoise plugin with controls.

a multi-bin organizational tool. (although i am hoping RED implements an updated bin system. making it like Final Cut Pro, or AVID, or any folder based list where you can create, modify names and arrange unlimited bins would be sweet.)

Please, Robert, No. I'd really not like to see RedCine try to become an NLE one-stop-shop. That would be a real waste of Red's resources. Other people do NLE very well, in many flavors. Take your pick.

I hope Red concentrates on making RedCine a really good, and ever-more-useful, color grading/looks tool. I need that, and NLEs suck at that. (just my $.02)

Your point makes sense Fuler. I just worry that we might not see Rocket acceleration for editing soon enough (please NAB, tell me I am wrong).

I would cut with the best representation of an actor's face I could get, the closest to the real thing. Offer me 6k full debayer on a 120 ft screen and I'd say thank you! (along with a Panny pro plasma and an SDTV)

While I can edit dialogue and anything else very well, I am not a long time working editor, just I am just stating my pov. However, on a more practical sense, if one is investing in a Rocket it would be nice to get the most out of it. That is all I am saying.

Red probably won't get to it before someone else does. I wouldn't know. I'd ask hard working post people like you guys for a vision of what may be in the horizon.

How about a Help feature. xP

With a search that responds to acronyms, commonly misused terminology, misspellings, gives suggestions to similar acronyms...
...and displays the most accurate name for along with an eminent definition before getting into the actual help for the item.

I would love it!

:)
