Been having some odd issues with Redcine-x 356.. Had been working great.. I recently wanted to check out version 454.. Was nice, but didnt seem ready for production work, so I decided to switch back to 356... Downgraded my rocket firmware, downgraded my driver..

Now I'm constantly having issues with autosave RMD not working. Also have issues where if I click the meta button in the viewer window to see precorrected image when I let go of the 'M' it stays in the meta look until I start playback.. They are related because once the 'M' issues starts up the RMDs stop saving. I've tried wacking my preferecnes and ini for redcinex but the issue persists..

Any ideas?

The only way I've found to get it working again is to restart redcine-x..

Hey Joe,

You really should be using 454. It's had allot of improvements and bug fixes. In what way does it seem not ready?

We'll take a look at the autosave issue. Can you provide more steps to reproduce? Feel free to shoot an email to redcinex at red dot com with more details.

Cheers,
David

The main issue I had was workflow and ui sluggishness.. In comparison to 356.. Things like being able to mouse over and spin the mouse wheel to adjust color correction settings no longer worked, and that was a HUGE problem for me. Scrubbing through timeline was signifcantly sluggish when compared to 356 there is zero delay when scrubbing around.. The rest of it looks great, but it was just slowing me down too much.. Im in the middle of a job so Im hesitant to try again.

I felt like tha autosave RMD thing was related to me pulling into and out off full screen mode. Some times in full screen I could start playback with the space bar, but couldnt stop it.. Would make a 'donk' audio noise.. Only way to stop was to exit full screen and stop via window controls.. Once this happen RMDs would stop autosaving, and using the meta button (in the viewer window) would result in meta look staying put after release of the meta button.. I had a work around where I would open full screen.. Use the play button to start, and then the space would stop playback again. This used to make RMDs start autosaving again and the meta button work properly, but recently I cant get that to fix the issue..

For now my work around is to use bins and then save RMDs manually..

Hi Joe,

Build 356 had issues with auto saving RMD which have long since been fixed in 454.
Also in 454, we changed the mouse wheel behavior. In order to prevent accidentally changing values when scrolling the clip settings panel, you have to actually
click inside the edit widgets so they have focus before you can use the mouse wheel.
Also, if you have a mouse wheel that can scroll left/right it should just work regardless.

Ok.. Thanks.. Ill give 454 a try again.. Makes sense about the scrolling although clicking in field is an extra step..

I played with it quickly to check the horizontal scroll.. The horizontal thing appears to work but only after bringing focus to the control. Would be great to see the horizontal scroll work when just hovering over the control..

FYI for anyone looking for horizontal scroll. Holding SHIFT down and using the scroll wheel turns scroll to horizontal.. (at least on my OSX setup)

454 has been nice.. But I'm running into most of the same issues as described in my first message.. Not autosaving RMDs... Meta button starts working incorrectly.. On top of those, when things start not working, when I paste a look it doesnt show up until I start playback or I scrub 1 frame. These things all work correctly at launch, but quickly become an issue. Typically I see that if one thing is working incorrectly, all are working incorrectly..

Hey Joe,

We see the issue with the viewer not updating correctly. However that issue is not having an adverse affect on any of our RMD's, at least in our testing. So what I'm saying is we think it is related solely to the viewer not refreshing that frame quickly enough. Have you checked the timestamps of your RMD's? Are they actually out of date? Are the values contained within incorrect? Let me know.

David

RMD's wont get saved at all.. Typically I just roll through the browser correct and move to the next clip. At some point, which I haven't really figured out the trigger, Redcine-x just stops saving RMDs.. I dont notice unless I go back to the clip I just correct and see that RMDs are not created.. This always also coincides with the META look button in the view working erractically. Instead of holding to see meta view, and releasing back to correction it will just stay in the meta view.. If I click the META button again it will most of time go back to correction view.. but sometimes it takes a few clicks..

It started happening after I'd upgraded my Rocket driver and then downgraded it.. Im wondering if it's related to that.. I've reinsalled the latest driver and firmware and now the issue persists in 454.. Is there a way to completely remove and reinstall the red rocket driver?

another issue I constantly run into is.. Still Frame export. I use a custom export setting.. However when I start RedCineX it doesnt remember my selected setting.. So when I forget to set it, it changes my preference to use currect export setting back to default tiff output.. That setting is pretty deep. Instead of resetting a reminder to select an export setting would be nice.. I often write a dozen stills before I realize my settings have been changed.. Its more an issue currently because I had been restarting RedCineX a bunch to get the META button working..

Try this to see if you can get META button to hang.. Wouldnt be surprized if its related to the paste issue.. but since it sometimes works fine.. There's a way I've been able to repeat and get it to stop working. Im on OSX 10.6.4 with Red Rocket and latest drivers and firmware Redcinex 454

1) Open RedcineX
2) Use browers, double click a clip to load into viewer
3) Hit B key to get white balance picker
4) pick a white balance.. (view should not update)
5) hit the right arrow to advance the timeline (white balance should update the viewer)
6) Use the M (Meta Button) in the viewer to see the meta look.. (hold for a second or two and then release, view will stay in the meta look instead of going back to the corrected look)
7) from this point forward Meta Button will not work correctly..
