  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X PRO Build 23.2 BETA

I wonder now who wouldn't want to use ADD for a feature? I see a great improovement for low light and noisy situations. Perhaps not needed to render in ADD when shot in standard light condition with low contrast and low ISO.

Is it possible to choose on a clip base wich one will be rendered in ADD? Like another metadata setting?

Pat

Ps The variations of the blacks are beautifull!

@ David and Bob,
I suppose those are crops that you are showing?

No crop on my shots. Just downscaled. One set is 800px wide but I left the first set (the 3K material) 1920x80 if anyone wants to download and look side by side.

This is a one light in RCX and ADD export at the default settings.

About 30 seconds per frame in 6K, 3K was much faster.

6K tiff = 106MB
3K tiff = 27MB

That's the data difference but the 3K dragon footage is very clean! Will be even cleaner with ADD outputs. So good to render out slomo, etc with ADD for cleanest results from RCX

Think about green screen...VFX plates, etc.

Lots of places it will be very useful, but will need to redline the renders over a farm and most facilities are set up for that anyway.

Holy shit is awesome ...

BUT sorry guys I have not followed the whole speech, you can not 'do everything a movie?
will be implemented? or for now it's just a frame?

For now you get the ADD advantage with a SNAPSHOT.

Later you will be able to add ADD to renders to motion streams via the REDLINE command line tool built into RCX. But not yet.

Missed to click on first set,
Firefox shows in the automatic downscale quite some noise, so I was kinda wondering about that.
Opened the first set and got what I expected image with some noise and amazingly clean image ;)

Okay - I have played a bit with ADD and it's VERY, very impressive - specifically helps with high detail fabrics. Really awesome guys.

After banging on it a bit - I have feature request(s) for the next version -

#1: I REALLY want AJA io4K support. The io4K is awesome and drives every 4K monitor I throw at it from a laptop over TB2 and works perfectly with Adobe CC right out of the box. And it's small. HIGHLY recommend. I haven't tried this version yet as my io4K is at the office - but in the RCX 22 it did not recognize the AJA io4K over TB.

#2: After rendering the ADD frame - please reload the processed frame into the frame buffer.

#3: Write the ADD settings selected into the RMD. Have REDLINE read the ADD settings from RMD if they exist - when processing from REDLINE using RMDs.

Maybe make the "ADD" letters turn green or something like that so that when the render is done so the user knows the processed frame is in the viewer and frame buffer. This way - assuming you add AJA io4K support - you can adjust the unsharp mask etc. - and look at it in 4K on a monitor, adjust the slider a bit - hit the ADD button again, etc. - this would be way faster for finding the best setting for 4K motion renders.

Obviously, for stills work only you can drive RCX on a higher resolution desktop - but lots of folks will want to rock a laptop driving a 4K display (because we can now) - and for those of us that want to use the ADD for a hardcore motion render - we will want to set ADD settings per shot - and assuming we could hit the ADD button, slide the settings - get the processed frame into the frame buffer with the settings in the RMD ... one could step through each shot and find the best ADD settings while looking at a 4K display - then rock a REDLINE render to RedLogFilm for grading.

Anyway - very exciting - please keep pushing it along. The easier it is to use - the more folks will leverage it's power.

Bravo.

A preview would be good.

Also, after doing one output, then changing ADD settings, there is no visible change to the new file created.

If there is a way to "pre visualize ADD" that would be good.

You can't actually "pre visualize" since it's a processed image - but you CAN move that processed image into the frame buffer as soon as it has been created - so you can see it after it is processed. If it's in the frame buffer - it will also go out and supported video IO devices. So you move the sliders - hit ADD - look at it - adjust sliders again - hit ADD - look at it - and then move on to the next shot when you are happy.

I did confirm that the ADD values are not currently written to the RMD for the shot. We need that for sure - since you really want to twerk setting per shot.

Would be nice to have the ADD option for a TIFF export preset (usable both for film and "export markers only")

IMPRESSIVE!

EXACTLY - exports from the MARKERS and ADD SETTINGS (per marker) saved in the RMD :)

This way - you could actually have multiple stills from the same shot with different ADD settings - although that would not be as common as different ADD settings per shot - but I can think of examples where it would be good do have as sometimes in fashion - a single shot rolls on forever :)
