I have noticed recently that any footage I have shot on the Red Epic in 5K tends to pause or lag during playback in Redcine-X ver18. We are currently on the list for the dragon sensor upgrade and have ordered the red rocket-x. I am thinking the new red rocket will solve this issue but wanted to go ahead and ask if anyone else has ran into this issue that found an alternative way to solve it.

Thanks

Alpha Build 18, as an Alpha has some experimental performance tweaks in it to run better on higher end machines. We are still working out some things to get the speed benefit more universal to all machines.

It would be very helpful to have some more details about your pause/lag during playback.

Do you have opencl enabled?
What graphics card do you have?
What quality mode are you running?
What type of 5k clips are these? Resolution and Redcode please.
Do you have a RedRocket?
What type of machine do you have?
Have you tested your hard drives for how fast they can read/write?

I apologize i meant to say Redcine-X version 17.3 I was mistaken when I said 18. Im working with a ATI Radeon HD 4870 graphics card and the original red rocket. It was shot at 5k 2:1 resolution at a compression of 5:1. I am using an apple tower osx verion 10.6.8 with 2.66ghz quad core intel xeon and 8gb 1066mhz ddr3 memory. Hard drives seem to read and write pretty fast and opencl is enabled. Like I said 4K footage plays smooth and well in redcine-x it wasnt until I shot in 5k that i ran into this issue.

thanks

Well if you are on 17.3 then there is no OpenCL usage as that was added for build 18 Alpha.

What quality mode are you playing back at?

And is this on windows or mac?

it does the pause lag thing no matter what quality I play it in and it is on mac. It starts playing then pauses for a second or two then continues playing this sometimes throws the audio off in playback as well.

Good news is once I have exported the clip it doesnt pause/lag in quicktime
