Hi,

It's been a very long time since my last Red job and that was 2K. I have 5K files which I've exported via Redcine X and they look ok but have a small black bar top and bottom and are mute. Have I missed a setting in the latest version of Redcine that means I've cropped and muted the files ? I have the boxes ticked for audio and didn't do anything with the frame size other than pick 1920x1080. Thanks very much for any help in advance.

You need to set a 16:9 framing to avoid the black bars - if you're in RCX-Pro, open a clip in the viewer, go to the Framing tab top right, and check 'lock aspect ratio' in the framing control. Then pick 16:9 from the drop down, and finally pick 'centre crop' in the 'crop' section. You should see a red framing line - everything within that will be downscaled to fit the 1920x1080 frame you're choosing in your export settings.

Save this preset and you can then apply to a batch of clips in a bin.

Daniel,
You may have forgotten to attach the audio tracks to your footage. There are a couple of different ways to attach audio, here is one: If your using RCX Pro select the Etc tab (on the far right hand side of the app), expand the Audio dropdown and then attach your audio file to the corresponding clip in viewer. If you still have issues after this email us at redcinex at red dot com and we'll further assist you. Thanks.

Hi Armen,

Thanks very much for the reply , I am having problems with automatch so will email you guys.

I'm trying to downscale clips from a shoot to 1920x1080.I've shot in 2, 4 an 5K and every time that i do the above the framing lines don't match the different resolutions. How do i make a 16:9 preset that apply's to all resolutions?

Pretty sure I've done this with "Fit Height" "Center Crop" and "Lock Aspect Ration 16:9" in RCX, then save as a preset. I have not tried it in RCX Pro.

At worse, you can make 3 presets, sort the bin by resolution, and "apply to 'Bin (Selected Clips)"

thanks, that worked, just made a preset for every crop size. But there should be a way to always use 16:9 crop like the frame lines you have while shooting. no matter if the footage was shot 2,4 or 5K, just can't find out how...

I tried al those steps, and somehow it defines the size in pixels and not relative, so when applying to anther cropped shot, it's a different size.

I have recently shot some footage in 4k Ana in Red MX with Lomo roundfronts (2x). Using 'fit width 2x' center crop and lock aspect ratio (2:39) I get black bar on top and bottom. How do I get 2:39 footage only without the black bars?
THanks so much.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I was looking for answer to the same question.......
