Hello,

We recently shot our first production on the Red and are trying to process our footage through Redcine. We did a one-light and some basic color correction and are trying to export the footage as Quicktimes for use in FCP. Every time we try and export a clip the program crashes - I could understand once or twice here and there but this happens every single time we try and export any of our clips!

We've tried using Reset, we've tried re-installing, we've opened a new project and then added just one shot in that project to export but again, every time we run the program it crashes (by crash I mean it closes itself and we get the 'closed unexpectedly' message).

Here's our system:

Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated as we're nearing wits end and battling deadlines (even though we budgeted a ton of extra time in the schedule for things like this, we expected the program to at least work part of the time!)

Thanks!

Are you mixing resolutions or frame rates in one Redcine project?

Actually yes, while we did most of the project at 3K/50fps there were a few shots done at 2K/99fps.

That said, wouldn't this not be an issue if we opened a new project in Redcine and just exported shots which were the same quality/frame rate?

Mfilme,
This is John, I just CCed you on an email to Cary.

Cary told me redcine was crashing on him RIGHT AWAY, so I didnt suspect the mixing frame rates to have been an issue. Also, I myself havent had any problems with redcine mixing frame rates.

I hope my email helps!

How complicated is the project and what is the intended output resolution - may I suggest Red Alert/Red Line plus Crimson or batch processing the proxies to ProRes as the potentially less treacherous paths than Redcine?

Mixing 4K and 3K seems to always work for me... What doesn't work is the following:

Doing a full debayer with any 2K footage mixed in with 4K or 3K. Redcine crashes when going from a full debayer 2K clip to a 4K or 3K clip. If you separate out all your 2K footage and render it separately, Redcine won't crash.
