I'm sorry if these questions have already been asked or answered, but I was wondering about the possibility of increasing REDCINE throughput in the post-production workflow:

Will REDCINE be sold and licensed separately?

Will REDCINE take full advantage of multi-core/multi-processor computers?

Does REDCINE leverage the GPU for increased performance?

Will there be a lower cost "render only" version for setting up a render farm?

If there is a low cost renderer, could it be controlled by Qmaster? Or would a third party render manager be required?

If the answers to any of these questions are "no" or "unknown at this time" then please turn them into feature requests.

Thanks,
Paul

Yes.

Yes.

Graeme has confirmed that he wants to make a command line version. Whether or not it will be available at launch... unknown.

That depends on if Qmaster has a scripting language for generic interfaces.

Just to confirm: he wasn't talking about the free copy you get with the camera but one that is a freely available stand alone copy for commercial use even if you don't own a camera?

I thought the idea was that it's free to download. That way post houses have no excuse not to have a red ready pipeline.

Well, if that's true, I hope they get it into our hands BEFORE the camera gets delivered to users. Pipeline integration doesn't happen overnight!

Unfortunately, it DOES happen overnight (and way too often!). Maybe, I should have said that pipeline integration SHOULDN'T happen overnight. :)

Ideally, it would be great to have an open beta so we can provide constructive feedback and help squash bugs before the release.

I've never been convinced open betas lead to more stable releases. It usually seems more dependent on the developer than the scope of their testing aparatus.

Also beta testing a codec could be very very very problematic if it's not forward compatible. Studios wouldn't be able to really integrate it into their pipeline because any footage compressed using it would never be useable again.
