Hi,
I seem to have come unstuck with my editing set-up with regards to RedCine preview monitor.
I normally use two to three monitors plus one larger for the preview and that works fine with all other editing software.
Not with RedCine though!
It does not matter on which display I place the interface when I switch to “monitor on other screen” I don’t seem to be able to move the preview on anything other than display 1 or 2 and never on display 3 or 4. :banghead:
I need to place the preview on my last display, which is a 2K further away from the desk for better judgment.
Is anybody there with any experience on this subject, I am trying not to bother the Tech department for something that could be right under my nose.
Thanks guys.

Mauro,

There is a "Second Monitor" option under Preferences -> General. Are all your displays showing up here? Note in builds 15/16 there was an initialization issue where if you haven't actually gone into the settings and chosen an option this functionality can fail.

David

The second monitor option is still buggy from our end here.
Using v15 I get the odd no video on the video monitor.
I have to shut down a few times to get everything back to normal.
Is there a preference I can delete if I bugger up the settings?
It seems to get really confused with a Retina and a Apple 24" display.
We are about to test it with the final display which is an 27" Thunderbolt.

Has anyone else ran into this issue with using a second display?
I just tested the 27" Thunderbolt and the second display option is intermittent.
Basically works once every three tries.
Even at reboot the display wont kick in.
You can see black but no video.

Hi David, sorry about the delay!
Actually it is under “View / video on second monitor” (or control + Right), is that what you mean?
If so that is what I’m talking about!

I’ll try to explain better:

Suppose your system has 3 displays and you place your Red Cine interface on display No. 1 then you turn on the “View on second Monitor”.
In this case the preview will go to N0.2, (the next available display).

Now suppose your best monitor (2K 30” or so) was monitor No. 3, you would want RedCine to address the preview there.
So you think, if the interface on monitor 1 I gives me preview on monitor 2, then if I move the interface to Mon. 2 I will obviously get the preview on to the next available monitor, number 3 correct?
NO …. the preview will go back on to monitor 1 :nono:.
No matter what I tried the Preview will never go to any monitor other than 1 or 2 regardless of where the interface is.:banghead:

I hope this is a little clearer now so that perhaps if somebody had better luck they could kindly let me know.

As I was saying I use four displays and I MUST have all my editing software displaying the preview on the last monitor, hence Number 4.
I can do that with Newtek VT5 or Vegas Pro but not with Red CineX.

BTW I had to discard version 15 as it had to many bugs. I now use 14 but have not yet tried 16.

Hi Mauro,

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry for the confusion .. no I mean that under your General Preferences there is an option which lets you select which
monitor to preview on. To get there on a Mac you would go to the Menu and open the Preferences dialog. Under the General tab there
is an option called "Second Monitor". It will let you choose which display to preview on.

But this is only available builds 15 and up. Can you say what you were having trouble with in 15 so we can address it for the next release?

Thanks,
David

I put screen one on in the prefs but I had the interface in that screen when I did it and now I can't get the full screen to go back to original size. I tried ctrl F and a ton of other keyboard short cuts and nothing happens. Help!

Yes tried everything I could think of. I even tried to reinstall and it still did the same thing. I need to find the prefs and delete them but where? I'm on a PC

Hello David,
I am sorry for having misconstrued your message.
GREAT!!!! I did not know that because, as I said earlier, I have being using v14 since I had freezing problems with 15.
I shall now install v16 and hopefully benefit from the new feature.
Once again thank you for letting me know.
Mauro

This is one of the reasons why I left v15 and went back for v14.
Not stable yet, I think they did refine it eventually.
I had to change the boot drive’s image in order to loose the problem.
However, as from version 16, you should be able you to exit the full screen by depressing “Ctrl” and “arrow right” which toggles between the two.
Hope this helps,
Mauro

Multiple Monitors

Here’s the news David,
I have tried v16 and I can see the option for chaging from monitor 1 to 2 but no monitor 3 (or 4 etc..)

However, by selecting monitor 2 I do get the preview displayed on monitor 3.
Very peculiar.
Once again thanks for poiting me in the right direction.

Mauro

I have a 3 monitor set-up with 2 computer monitors and I run SDI out of my aja card to a properly calibrated FSI monitor. Great for working in premiere or FCP or after effects, but I can't send a feed out to my monitor from red cine-x. I hate the idea of tweaking my raw files on any monitor other than a calibrated monitor and not a computer screen.
Are there any options?

Adam I think you need RED ROCKET for the actual R3D output.
I want to be proven wrong so I can use an cheap Intensity Pro :)

That's unfortunate if it's true considering I can monitor r3d files in premiere and after effects so it should be something achievable...
Frustrating seeing as this monitor is part of my workflow to keep things critical.

Please dont quote me on that.
However, with FCPX 10.0.6, I can view R3D on my Intensity Pro.
I can make all the changes in Color Science on the fly and view it.
This is on a non ROCKET system.

Don't worry Eric I won't hold you to it :)
I moved off of FCP when they first introduced 10 - wasn't a fan of the initial release although it looks like they've finally added most if not all of the pro features they were initially missing. I like the premiere and after effects workflow, but I'd like to be able to dip into cine-pro as it's super quick to do from Premiere - it's just being stuck without being able to view on a production monitor in cine-pro that hurts.
Hopefully they'll figure out a way to allow this sometime soon.
