Hi guys,
Couple of pointers here for smoother operation in Redcine:
1. It's a good idea to repair your permissions every now and then.
2. Make sure you are not running other apps while using RC to transcode
3. Set your delivery resolution in the PROJECT window first, then frame your shot in the SHOT room, then make sure the resolution in the OUTPUT room matches what you set in the PROJECT room.
4. Avoid bottlenecks, don't read and write to to the same drive if you can avoid it, use separate firewire/esata ports for read/write if possible.
5. When things get wonky, reset RC and start a NEW project
6. Keep like resolutions in the timeline; 4K in one project, 3K in another, 2K in another.
7. Transcode overcranked shots solo, keep varispeed slow motion shots by themselves in a project or use Red Alert to transcode these when transcoding to QT formats, the slowmo stuff seems to generate the issue more than anything else.
8. The Freeze Frame issue seems to be unique to the QT format, it won't happen with other formats, regardless of OS
9. I have noticed at times that setting the viewport resolution to medium or high can sometimes help get a render thru, keep in mind that your render times will suffer if you crank the viewport res too high, the CPU will have to draw hi res frames for the viewport while transcoding which will bog down the process.
We are working hard to improve the stability and functionality of our apps. For the time being I'm having good success by following these rules when using Redcine.
Best regards,
Kevin
