Hey guys

Totally new to RED, testing out some .R3D files thanks to helpful peeps in the forum.

I have a question though. I'm used to grading at the end of the editing process in Apple Color. Red Cine has a lot of grading options which seem to me to be akin of Photoshop's RAW opening dialog.

Do you guys mess with color in Red Cine? Or do you leave the clips as is and then grade elsewhere? I'm sure there are different ways but interested in seeing how most people do it.

Thanks

Fede

It depends, on the amount of footage, the editor, the clients etc.

I usually like to put a nice one-light color correction on first. Then if anything needs to change at the end we reload the RAWs and fix it.

RedcineX is not a full fledged color correction environment, thinking of it like photoshops Raw importer is an accurate description. It win't have the tools or flexibility of a full fledged color corrector ( Apples Color, Scratch, Resolve, Baslight, etc) I tell people it's more like the film lab than the telecine suite.

I don't think there is a wise or unwise way to do it, it's all based on the situation. I personaly like to make things look as close to the final as I can so people looking over the editor's shoulder who don't know what they are looking at won't make snap judgments about the footage before it's realized it's potential.

Red footage is raw data, so it is exactly like editing raw photos in photoshop. If you prefer to work in Color, I would do the bulk the the grading there with perhaps only an intial first light and/or white balance color correction with redcine-x.

Welcome to Reduser Federico! :]

thanks for all the replies guys. did some tests with the .r3d i found on the forum and love the results!
