  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I love Redcine, but recently ALSO fell in love with the ease of Cutting 2K QT Proxies right off the camera.

I've experimented with the FILE -> Make Quicktimes command in REDAlert, and my FCP Projects update just fine.

BUT I hate how clunky REDAlert is compared to REDCine. . . also, it won't do batch correction/copy&paste, as far as I know, so I'm wondering if there's a similar command in REDCine to rebuild the QT's with the Metadata from the .R3D file?

I'm using Final Cut 7, but have been able to reproduce the effects on FCP6.0.6

Mike the QT's should already be there.

There is a setting in camera to make the RedOne generate the QT's

Best workflow tool if your cutting proxies and want to alter the .rsx is below

Load all shots from Day1 into Clipfinder
Cmd-R to send a clip to red alert > alter settings >exit
with clip selected in Clipfinder hit LIFT > select all similar takes > hit Stamp

Do same for all other shots/takes

In Clipfinder > Alt+CMD+A (make QT's) Clipfinder regenerates all QT proxies for selected clips

when done select all clips, make sure in clipfinder your set to 1/2 and then Alt+CMD+F = send to FCP

the good thing about sending to FCP from Clipfinder is the names of the shots are the same, ie don't have the _H also.

Edit away.

Want to tweak a shot + all take. Go back to Clipfinder > select shot>CMD+R (opens clip in red alert> tweak >quit. Back in Clip finder select shot+take regen QT's

back to fcp all will go offline the pickup the new grade.

It's a great workflow but has some issues.
you can't change the camera color space. well you can but the proxy wont pick the change up. So you need to shoot in the colorspace ya wanna work in
Curves don't carry across.

What I tend to do is the above so can just get on with the first cut or the assist can start binning shots n prepping for the edit from the go. Once shots are binned up and qt generated with a decent first light use clipfinder to render all to prores then open the fcp proj and reconnect to the prores transcodes.

Ya can find clipfinder here

hope that helps a bit

Thanks, man. . . that's really interesting, but not quite what I had in mind (though it seems pretty rad, and I'll totally try that out. . .)

I'm STILL looking for a way to JUST update the QT Proxies in Redcine. The less Processing/Transcoding/Rendering time I spend, the better (for this particular project, at least.)

I'm very new to all things red. i'm trying to export footage from Redcine-x but i don't see an option to export as Apple ProRes. is it called something else i'm just not seeing?

thanks
