Redine 20.0.0 now supports DNxHD properly:

Support for all DNxHD quality levels. There are five choices for QUALITY when you select the DNxHD codec.
These five choices map to the three DNxHD quality levels like this:

* MINIMAL – DNxHD36
* LOW – DNxHD36
* NORMAL – DNxHD145
* HIGH – DNxHD220
* MAXIMUM – DNxHD220

But in reality it seems to be still producing same file size QT clips regardless of the quality setting. And they don't fast import to Media Composer. Any luck anyone?

I'll download today and take a look.

I tested it on another machine. It's doing the same thing and the quicktime files are all mangled when you play them back--kind of the same problem we had months ago.

Hmm.. Wonder why they couldn't stick with the DNxHD names instead of confusing things like this. =( Smells a bit apple here to be honest. And... No matter what I set it to I get DNxHD185 here.

Anywayz... Tested it on WinXP64SP2. The QT's I make are working. Though it's painfully slow and all DNxHD185. :emote_headwall:

OK, the mangling I was talking about was me using an old DNxHD codec. So that part is fixed.

Where exactly do I cahnge the DNxHD output? I do not see any option in Redcine for this.

Nope, I do not have such a setting, version 20.0 installed but I still have the same quality menus on the right as earlier versions.

as stated before:

* HIGH – DNxHD220
* MAXIMUM – DNxHD220

Why not name them correct in the first place? Easier to know how to do fast import.

Also does HIGH – DNxHD220 equals DNxHD 185 and MAXIMUM – DNxHD220 equal DNxHD 185x (10 bit)?

Also, it doesn't work, output is still DNxHD 185X, whatever I choose. So the good news about output are not so good news in the end.

Well, this is what was on the RED website, although I agree that it doesn't make any sense, seeing as the DnX HD codecs are frame rate specific, so if you shoot something at 23.98 or 24fps, then Avid would only allow you DnX 36, DnX 115 and DnX 175 codecs. The DnX 220 codec is a 29.97fps compression, and I haven't seen a lot of RED shoots in 29.97. So it stands to reason that Avid won't do a fast import either. I understand it must be complicated, though. I mean, the DnX HD codecs have only been around for like 5 years!!!

Still, Metafuze is a better and faster choice for converting to DNxHD. There's no reason going into RedCine, if you don't need the one light grade.
