  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDALERT vs REDCINE rendering quality

I cant get REDCINE to output any deep pixel file on my old box with my GPU card (FireGL Z1, it was pro at one time). A Nvida seems to work fine. Windows.
I would say REDCINE is tied to what what card you use.
That in play, the faster GPU you have the better for REDCINE.
RedAlert is prolly not as tied the GPU as RedCINE, as it was coded for macs that use older cards.

REDCINE is faster (on the right system), quality is the same

I have just completed shooting a feature in New Jersey titled Anything for you. I shot it in 4K and found the shallow depth of feild to be shallow. Does any body know why ? I had used ultra primes.

Shallow DoF on a given sensor size?

Product of length of lense and stop.
Longer lense = less DoF
Wider aperture = less DoF

Not much to do with this thread though!

I like to grade in Redcine, it's much faster and more creative for ME. But I wish i could transpose those settings to Redalert for the rendering, as I would love to spread the render across some machines that can't run Redcine

Mike,

Could you explain how you would '..spread the render across some machines..'

thanks very much,

david.

I think Mike's just talking about transferring a percentage of the shots onto different machines and running RedAlert on all of them - kind of a sneaker-net render farm!
