Hi,
Last night I re-compressed 10 x 4K 16:9 .R3Ds to ProResHQ Full Debayer scaled to 1920x1080 fit width (with my MacBook Pro 2.4Dual Core 4GB Ram).No other programs were running.
I had a frantic call from a client who was having issues with blacks from the previous DVCPROHD output of the same clips (that I rendered in RR using Metadata). He needed to Re-connect the clips by 9AM next day for 10,000 DVDs to be duplicated that afternoon.
So I decided to use ProRes HQ at 1080 and check the files as I went along. Each clip approximately 720 frames took 35+ minutes to render/output to ProRes HQ using the above settings. It seems like awfully long render times. Am I missing something or overdoing it with my settings (I don't think there's much to change).
Again, I'm a cameraperson mainly but just hoping for insight if people are getting similar results.
Thanks for any help!

Nope, not missing anything... They're long renders :angry02: That's just the way it is.... Especially out of a MBP.

It's been suggested that full debayer does not benefit 1080 clips and that using a lesser setting goes much faster.

I've also found that 2K (as you would expect) goes much faster so you might consider using that unless you have other reasons for 4K.

Others have suggested going straight from the proxies with no debayer at all gives pretty good results up to 1080.

So there are some options and compromises between speed and quality.

Full debayer is most beneficial to low-light footage in my experience, especially if you are pushing it at all. Big difference, actually, even when going down to 1080 or below. Not going full debayer speeds things up dramatically. You can see whether there is a difference for your footage pretty easily, and can decide what your needs vs. time quotient is.

One question I have is that I've been reading .R3Ds off a FW800 raid and saving Prores 1080 to an eSATA. Is it better to read off one drive and save to the other or simply to store both my .R3Ds on the eSATA and save the Prores files to the same eSATA drive?

Verko,
Most of the footage was low light and tungsten so I didn't take a chance with going 1/2 debayer. But appeciate the comments!

FYI
Running 1/2 debayer from 4K (for 1080P) to Prores HQ drops the render time down to approx 12 minutes for the same clip.
