  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Workflow Manual v.1.2

Brandon, thanks for your doc. I'm looking for a comprehensive write-up on working with Red footage (very new at this).

The objective is to keep the highest quality I can get (I shot 4K) for a HD format delivery.

Do you know of a trusted source that would provide me with more details on how to work with 2D and 3D FX? My project is FX heavy working with AE, Maya and 3D Max. I am not quite sure on how to integrate these FX without negatively impacting the quality of the project.

Thanks much.

Redcine "Failed to load construct"

Redcine "Failed to load construct"

Brandon,

Hope this message finds you well.

Followed your workflow recommendation and reached the endpoint in redcine where it says "Failed to load construct". When the intermediate was pictured in redcine, it did not show the actual cut. It was only 1 clip as a test, but the intermediate showed the clip itself revealing the slate and the whole nine. The sequence in FCP was an adjusted clip so the expectation was the XML would be shown the way it was cut. Created the telecine.xml in crimson, then opened redcine. Loaded the intermediate, then tried to open the project settings to the telecine.xml. And that's when I get the message. I've been trying to get an answer from crimson, but have gotten no response in regards to this error.

Open to any suggestions considering this is preliminary testing before a full length feature is completed using this workflow.

Thank you very much for any help!

You can use it free for the first 5 clips. I recommend you test the free version first to ensure this workflow works for you. I'm having issues and not getting quick responses to help from crimson. I already purchased it and hoping I get some answers soon. Test before you buy. Good luck.

First, let me say that the document I posted here is now out of date... it was written almost a year ago. I work a bit differently these days. It's very similar, but there are some important differences.

I have no idea what happened to the attachment, I am not planning on reposting until I update the document, which I hope to do in the next few weeks.

This thread got hijacked as well at one point, I was looking for constructive feedback to the document posted. So there is a lot of wade through in this thread, but it's mostly outdated as well.

As for the question about "Failed to Load Construct", its a common error message and often means you have clips on the timeline that are not ready for the XML export, or there is an issue (solvable) with the way Crimson sees your directory hierarchy. In the intermediate tab, select Add Prefix. Make sure the name listed there is the boot drive your working off of, this is where the intermediates go. It that doesn't work, change the Repeat to 2 instead of 1.
