I know, I’m sure this question has been asked countless times. I searched the forum, but couldn’t find any specific threads and all the web search results are outdated. I just picked up a R1MX and have no clue how to go about post-production. I’m editing on FCP7, so what are the differences between converting to ProRes or editing with proxies? How do I up-res the project back to 4K when I’m done? If anyone knows of any threads covering this in detail, that’d be great. ANY help is gladly appreciated! Sorry I’m being “that guy” for asking this question. I’m just unsure about this new workflow coming from DSLRs! Thanks in advance!

Hey Andrew, Wish I could help you more, but I havenʻt used FCS much at all since I got my Scarlet. Anyway, go here and download the RED Apple Workflow Installer V2 files. One of the files is the Final Cut Studio Whitepaper, which should give you a good idea of what you need to do. Good luck :-)

Well... I try to keep it as simple and fast as possible. Since my computer can handle RED footage even without red rocket (PPpro CS6) in 1/4 quality . First I cut everything then generate a XML and export to Davinci. My clients don't need more than 1080p so I use the free version which works really well. The extra headroom I use to re frame when needed, use as a close up shot, or VFX. You can work in 4k on da vinci lite but only renders in fullHD.

Since everything is just metadata, if I'm in doubt about a shot I do a first grade on red cine x and send a frame to the client. Piece of cake.

I'm using an i7@4.8ghz 16gb 240ssd + raptor 10000rpm + Raid 0 + GTX670 2gb. No prob at all.

I think on FCP X would be a similiar process but on FCP 7 (really outdated unfortunately) you'll need to work with proxies...

Transcode your footage to prores using redcine. Cut using that. Then you have a variety of options for conforming in FCP to higher quality, or you can take an xml from fcp into resolve and link to the original source files. You'll have a much better experience cutting with transcodes in fcp than you would using proxies.
