Hello everyone!

I am currently cutting a music video that was shot on the RED One in 4k, full frame. I have been cutting the footage in the Transcoded ProRes 422 HQ files made from the 4k R3D files.

The video has a few VFX shots that we are going to need to drop in once the video is locked and CCed.

Most likely we are going to reconnect the Transcoded ProRes files with the 4k selects and bring that sequence into Color. Correct the 4k footage in Color then bring it back into FCP so we can export the final sequence to QT files to send to the record label. The label wants the following: 1080p, 720p, & 480i QT files, and a DVD of the fin version. Here is my question...

After we CC in Color from the 4k files can we bring that Color sequence back into FCP at 1080p since that's what we are ultimately going to be outputting at? Or are we going to have to bring the 4k footage back into FCP and export a 1080p QT file out of FCP to then bring that QT file back into a new 1080p Sequence in FCP?

Also, as far as VFX goes, what is the easiest way to tell the VFX artist to export his files out of AfterEffects from so the VFX shots seamlessly go back into our 1080p timeline without any rendering or exporting issues?

Thanks for the help guys this community is a really great resource for beginners considering how complicated RED can get.

Did you shoot greenscreen for your visual effects? If so - you don't want to color correct your shots usually prior to giving to visfx. There are exceptions, but generally you want to always deliver to visfx uncorrected.

It sounds like your timelnie is prores - so you could have visfx rendered at prores - they can't give you is r3d files.

I tested the new color 1.5 workflow earlier this week. And you can "send to final cut pro" and you can set color's output to send back at 1080p.
Re the fx plates... Depends on the details, I'd send the ungraded master out of colour in whatever format the compositor wants, if it is going linear anyway the animation codec at 100% is a good cross platform choice... They can then output back to this codec. If you drop this into your fcp timeline or bring into color you should have few issues.
