I had in my hands today a RED without a sticker on the bottom, no number assigned, but it did have some engraving on the CF module. Also had some RED AKS not shown in the store. Just curious as to the status of these units? one of the various prototypes maybe??? :detective2:

Very interesting...

Most probably RED forgot to put the sticker on. These cameras are made by OEM manufacturer, probably in china, and shipped to RED. RED will then put name and serial number etc stickers on it, and make it a RED camera, instead of Shanghai Super Camera for example. That is then repacked and sent to customers. This is my speculation.

25 preproduction units were name for cities Prague, Hollywood, London, etc.

BTW, for that reason we name our 2 prototype underwater housings Atlantis and Honolulu

What was engraved on the side? What accessories were attached? Hmmmm this camera could be one of three things
a. prototype b. stolen c. customized

You sound mildly suspicious of the whole affair. I'm gonna be nosy and say tell us about your encounter with the mysterious red....

they're made in Singapore i believe.

also, what makes you think that red are just re-badging some no name camera, they are fully designed by red.

Or

D: Black market RED?

E: Every single customer camera with an assigned serial number has the serial number on the bottom of the camera (via the metal sticker). There are RED ONEs with names engraved on the side - pre-production cameras or current production run used for internal RED testing and demonstration purposes.

If it seems suspicious, contact RED. Could be a prototype or test camera that RED has given someone too.

We can track every camera even if it has nothing on the outside (we would need the camera to inspect). My guess is that this is one of the cameras Brent was talking about.

Thanks Brent, It's obviously one of these. Definitely not the stolen one, as I know the origin of the camera, and the previous project it was on in the states. It is one of the current production run.

Call off the dogs... was only curious, found my answer. If I had supected foul play, would I have posted publicly... Don't think so.

New Zealand right now has a couple Named cameras from our named pool. They do not have serial numbers, because they arn't serial numbered cameras.
