Red "Weapon" Name Poll - Change it or not?

David - I totally agree and empathize with your statements and the quote you posted. In fact, the whole Weapon name thing is, for me, annoying but not a "cause." My objections, and I want to point out that it is a totally subjective opinion, tend to be around the presentation of RED as a whole and the way the "Weapon" naming fits into that larger picture. By itself, it is somewhat innocuous. But, in that larger context, it looks like a military industrial complex nomenclature schema.

I would be and am perfectly happy to let this thread die as the stealth option works for me and the die has been cast. The only reason I brought the issue up is because, as I said, to me the Vista + Vision = W = Weapon thing seemed quite a stretch. I guess I was fooled by taking it too literally.

Vista, as you can imagine, will be top shelf. It will be an upgrade option for 6K Weapons though ( another reason for the new body ) so you have a nice upgrade path if Vista is initially out of your reach.

im not too hung up on the name thing. I don't see myself as a One, an MX and Epic or a dragon. I think the concerns voiced are legitimate and the options offered by red are excellent and just as legitimate.

Choice is good.

This has been a fun game, chasing Jarred down the rabbit hole through multiple threads and facebook posts! Little by little the puzzle starts coming together... I'm still very curious about that statement some months ago when Jarred said engineers had had one of those Aha moments... patiently waiting for NAB following the crumb trail!

Sounds like a poor marketing strategy, world wide conflict and war, and also a war on which is the camera, Black magic doing stupid things like cheap and incomplete untested cameras selling UHD not 4k, Arri geting on the Movi compatible camera like the Reds, and bunch of new players on the game, well Red stands for its constant development of high quality products, it has no real competition so it should keep its names sexy, like scarlet, it would feel weird to say "shoot this with my weapon" Phallic in deed, ew HAHAHA lets make her a sexy powerhorse make us proud! She is sexy with carbon fibre and ergonomics, name her sexy.

Unless we named our cameras with numbers or a few random letters someone will always object. If we went sexy like you suggest... that would piss off a whole different group.

And we are not alone. Arri and their ""hooker name" camera, Blackmagic with their "Ursla" name Sony with their self nick-named "EVIL camera" ( that's real btw www.sony.com/evilmovie the name stuck after Evil Dead) etc. etc. Unless you name your stuff random numbers and or letters there is someone that will always be offended. We had complaints about names of Epic, Dragon, and pretty much everything else.

Its just a name. It means alot to us for positive reasons and not in any negative ways that people assume.

I understand the actual security issues some people have and I think we have addressed that accordingly.
