Hello, I am wondering how much the crop factor of sensor will affect the physical length of the lens, i.e. making the lens length longer.

If 6K HD is : 5568 x 3132 and the 5K HD is : 4800 x 2700 that results in a 26,7% crop (right ?)

Isnt that magnifying the lens since thats essetially magnifying the sensor ?

Regards
Thor

I was under the impression 5.5K was closest to Super 35 for Dragon
And 5K Dragon was a tad smaller by around 10%

MX was the sensor that was Super 35 at 5K

These differences are marginal.

5K Weapon = Super 35

Daniel, not sure that is correct.

4K on MX was Academy.

5K on Dragon is Super 35 (3perf).

Take a quick peek at this:

I may be reading it wrong - I'd wager I'm Error

It can be a little confusing, for sure.

Here's a little cheat sheet I made for myself...just to navigate all the small variances in format.

Hope this helps!

Notice that Dragon 4.5K HD lines up almost exactly horizontally with Academy.

And Dragon 5K is almost identical to Alexa, and super close to Super 35 3 perf.

I have to imagine this was intentional on RED's part...(so majority of current cinema glass could at least cover 5K).

ACADEMY 35:

ACADEMY 35: 21.95mm x 16
RED DRAGON 4.5K HD: 21.59mm x 12.15
RED DRAGON 4.5K FF: 23.03mm x 12.15

SUPER 35:
SUPER 35 2perf: 24.89mm x 9.47
SUPER 35 3perf: 24.89mm x 13.87
SUPER 35 4perf: 24.89mm x 18.66
ALEXA: 23.8mm x 13.4
ALEXA Prores 2KHD: 23.7mm x 13.3
RED DRAGON 5K HD: 23.98mm x 13.49
RED DRAGON 5K FF: 25.58mm x 13.49

SUPER 35+
ALEXA OPEN GATE: 28.7mm x 18.13
RED DRAGON 6KHD: 27.82mm x 15.65
RED DRAGON 6K WS: 30.7mm x 12.95
RED DRAGON 6K FF: 30.7mm x 15.8
