Did a quick color matching test for a small shoot I had. When I say quick, I mean quick. Not as thorough as the other tests. I did zoom in at the end to see how much actual detail is being resolved. Honestly, I'm impressed with R5C for the price being offered. Only issue I have ran into with the camera is third party lens issues on the video OS side. Also no 33 cube 3d lut support and no 1.5x squeeze option at this time

I’m thrilled with my R5 C. It’s a fantastic b-cam to my RAPTOR when it’s not shooting stills.

I have a regular R5 in the bag as an extra backup body.

I’m not the OP, but I’m in the same boat. Came from R5 C to V-Raptor and now use them both.

In my experience the best way to match is to shoot RAW, then start your grade in Resolve with a Color Space Transform from Canon Cinema Gamut/Canon Log 3 to RED wide gamut/REDLogFilm.

In Resolve’s Canon RAW settings I set sharpness to zero, mid-level detail to -20, shadows to +10 and highlights to -10. Also I tend to set the white balance about 100-150 degrees higher than what the V-Raptor is set to.

That tends to get me a very close match in most situations. Sometimes there’s a little more work to do either with tint, exposure, or curves, but generally after the CST and the RAW settings above, I use identical grading steps and the output is very similar.

The R5 C is a beast for resolution, nearly as good as the Raptor. But in terms of dynamic range it’s not even close. Be prepared for some substantial noise reduction.

As a R5C owner myself, I can appreciate all the tricks that "little" camera has up its sleeve. I'm a hybrid shooter and more into photos than video currently, so the R5C ticks a lot of boxes.

That said, in my view, the R5C shines the most when I capture in 10bit XAVC ALL-I. The files are easy to work with in Resolve and respond nicely to a color-managed workflow that suits me.

I've always felt that if you can't make a 12-stop camera work, there are other shortcomings to deal with apart from the camera. Of course, these things have a lot to do with shooting style and desired results.

After having been away from this forum for quite a while, it has been interesting to read about RED's latest cameras.

EDIT: as a small BTW, SmallRig's current cage/plate sure makes for a neat setup.

I have done a bunch of jobs where I have mixed V-Raptor and R5C in 8k and they play shockingly well together if you dont need to stress the highlights too much.
and then you also have a high-end, small, stills body. Huge bonus.
