  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED vs. DVX andromeda vs. HVX200 vs. XTi

There's just one 'tiny' fact that i haven't 'discovered' yet. If i have a AUTOCAD model of a camera body, that i've design in my free time, where do i go about 'molding' it, to carbon fiber, or a aluminum alloy? i've heard RED is made in singapoe, but i don't want to travel to asia from chessington north.

1. You are disrespectful to the author of this thread by turning this into your own speculation thread.
2. You are disrespectful to the makers of Red One by suggesting they are lying and by putting down their effort and skills with your shallow perspective.
3. You are wasting your and other people's time and energy as well as annoying.

Or you want to argue this also ?

let me give you some tutorial.

first, read this forum, especially post #7 point #2.

and the most important step is this.... i mean THIS.

DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND! Red is doing a great job on offering indie filmmaker a mean to capture good quality footage's. but with so many bugs and complains about the workflow and real world operation, i begin to think that a SI2k mini kind of workflow is acceptable, hence my believes in 'Andro' type of cameras. The bottom line is, the search is still on,for a affordable, WORKING Digital Cinema Camera (with audio) that can deliver a theatrical 35mm print (when transfered) with no problem what so ever. I don't care it's HD,2k,3k,4k or 5k. i just want to make my god dame movie!

now the force relies heavily on one company.

May the force be with you, ikonoskop.

Dude... Don't give me links.. BUILD your camera.. When it's shooting, THEN I'll listen.

I'm having trouble playing the clips. I'm running a Windows XP machine with Quicktime 7.5

Any idea what is going on?

.....this is an interesting thread isn't it?

Here's how I see it. Sky1walker, being the young jedi that he is, is poking into the rabbit hole a little deeper than most. Problem is, he's using a lightsaber with a pointy end instead of a round end. Some of the other young jedis, previously uninterested in the rabbit hole, are swinging at skywalker for looking in the rabbit hole. One member of the council is unimpressed with some of the particular pokes from young skywalker.
So here's the thing skywalker. You have to write your thoughts in a way as to not insult. You make it sound as though the enterprise that the Jedi Council is on is easy. It's not, and has a considerable investment behind it. You are not incorrect though, in the underlying foundation of your argument, that Red is a hybrid camera company. It takes elements from a variety of technologies, and incorporates them into a new and previously unchartered direction. This is an age old practice that has allowed us humans to 'evolve'. It's the details, as one of the Council members pointed out, where the devil is, and you've overlooked that, and insulted Council at the same time by implying that the details are unimportant, when in fact, in building such a hybrid camera, the details are crucial. This is the cutting edge of hybridization, where most details are either undefined or very tricky to configure. And you know what, he's write to be pissed, because you're telling him that his work is unimportant, when it appears that the opposite is true.

Red is a hybrid company. There is no doubt about this. They also use the internet as a marketing tool to great effect. Keep in mind that the owner of the company began selling sunglasses out of the back of the trunk of his car.
This is important, because it means that he is very driven and committed to his ideas. This also means that he's not into the hype nearly as much as the actual quality of his ideas. This is a critical element in the success of this camera company. And it is one. You are just splitting hairs on definition, which makes little sense, as a camera company makes cameras. Which Red does.
Young jedi, you've also made it sound a little simpler than it is. You need to give credit where credit is due. But alas, time will teach you to write in a way as to have people gather around you, as opposed to attack you.
I would speculate that Red works in conjunction with a high end sensor design and build company to make a proprietary sensor based on DSLR technology and building up on that. I would speculate also that they have a similar relationship with a cardreader company, and various other data throughput device companies.
I understand what you're saying. However it's not as easy as you think. At least, I don't believe so. On the other hand, you've been fairly lambasted by people for no reason other than you've been a little untoward in your approach.

But your a bright young jedi whose willing to do a little research to talk his game, and it's unfortunate that others don't see that aspect about you. It makes your contribution to the board a potentially valuable one, especially in areas like idea generation.
The future, after all, belongs to the young.
I'm sure when Jim first started on Red he was also called an idiot and crazy. His vision has turned into the hopes and dreams for many.
There's a fine line between madness and genius.

By the way Matthew, some of my friends and I used to party in the other part of the former factory your in, when it was occupied by artists and other fun types. I love the spaces in there. Nice view from your window. How do you like the Blue Moon? And thanks for the test effort.

I haven't been to the Blue Moon in a while... thats cool I didn't know the building was an artist's space before my time, would love to see some photos of the 'before'.
The roof is a great place to shoot, you almost can't go wrong with the architecture up there..
Here's some recent test shots I did up there.. simulated 1000fps with the Andromeda:

Apologies to all members, jim and CO, for my disrespectful attitude. Thought will be addressed in good manner.
