  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED + UGrip

I prefer the hex key. Once you set it, there is really no need to adjust it...and no chance of accidentally bumping the adjustment handle.

Jason,
You really cant appreciate the Ugrip gear until you hold it in your hands. The photos don't do it any justice. It is really the best looking and designed gear I have on my Red.

One other point, although not perfect...the drive box does offer some limited drive isolation from bumps, etc. I have emailed Ugrip and suggested some minor improvements (so far they have yet to respond), but to date it offers the best solution for the drives.

true, thats what grips are for, to carry the hex key. _

Actually the AC

Thanks, their sites clean neat and cool design tells a lot about their build quality, I think they should also do a much more isolated drive box, they would sell a lot if the box was really damped given you might use it running around handheld

Thats exactly what I emailed them...no response yet.

BTW- with the current box, the drive never touches the actual box. it floats inside held by the rubber tipped feet. the rubber tips just need to be bigger.

I do have one complaint about Ugrip... I've ordered it like 3 weeks ago and I'm still waiting. They have had a change-over of distribution here in the states, they now only sell through B&H here in the states. And I'm told that the two 19mm mounts that come with the RED kit are still another 3-4 weeks out of manufacturing.

Edit > it shipped. Still took forever, but I think it's because I caught them right at the end of their NAB special pricing. Still have to wait another few weeks for those 19mm mounts though.

1512 bucks??? even when paying in euro that`s a hefty price tag! the arri s-3 is cheaper I believe and I`ve never used anything better than that. Additionally I don`t like the idea of having to use a hex to change something. It definately looks like a fantastic piece of equipment, but why so expensive?

$1500 included everything, drive box, (2) 19mm universal mounts, handle kit, extra handles and extra extensions + pelican case...a bargain if you ask me.

Available at Abel.

I do love having the ability if im operating to 'fiddle' One of those nice things to just be able to tweak the rig between takes easily but maybe the hex can be swapped over for Kepp levers. Should be getting a review unit soon so will keep that question in mind. But YES i think the full handles kit, drive / comtech mounting box and pelican case for $1500 is a pretty good price. IM SURE the arri stuff (whilst that is my fave) will be MUCH more. If you stop to think about it look at how bloody simple the cast Arri stuff is, not much to it, they just got 'it' right
