So I'm in search for a new monitor for my RED.

For $1k less the RED Touch 7.0 you can get an Atomos Shogun which in addition to being a beautiful 1080p touchscreen field monitor also is a 4K recorder for other camera platforms.

What would be the benefit of using a Red touch vs the cheaper and more versatile shogun?

Thanks!

Camera control? Which isn't all that important for the guys who use side handle / switchblade / REDMote / Foolcontrol.

Possibly size & weight may also be a factor some people.

If neither of those are a factor to you - you may even be ahead with the Atomos if you want redundant recording, or proxy Pro-res recording?

I've been contemplating upgrading to a Shogun instead of the Touch 7" too but yeah, I don't have a side handle, so I'd need that or the switchblade. Something about depending solely on wireless (ex. redmote/foolcontrol) makes me nervous so I'd have to dish out for the side handle or switchblade at minimum. Seems like an intriguing way to go though. Also interested what others' thoughts are.

Is anyone out there successfully recording ProRes proxy files to this or the Odysseys, and then linking back, frame accurately, to the R3D files after editing? Seems to me this would be a plus, but when I looked into this last summer none of these recorders could record with the RED filename AND accurate TC. Now I don't really see anyone talking about it. If this worked I might consider going with something like this over the RED Touch.

I'd be interested in this too. Love the 7" Touch but for some clients that workflow would be enormously helpful.
