Getting a Tilta Gravity thanks to Chris' bad ass group buy.
Now stuck on monitoring options. SDI cabling is super neat and internal so an SDI monitor would be a clean choice. Thinking a Small HD 702 Lite. That plus a sunshade and a ptap cable runs around $1100.

Or using existing 7'' Red pro touch monitor but the pain of having to unscrew and re-screw the monitor onto the sliding top handle makes me not want to go down this route (wasn't the easiest to mount in the first place). Also a long monitor cable is $350.

I run PL mounts so AF or Iris control isn't necessary. So after initial setup, I'd have no real need for a touch screen controlling the brain. Also apparently Small HD has a bunch of great exposure / focus tools and I can always have the SDI feed with full overlays that I'm used to.

Any thoughts or advice?

Thanks

What I'll be doing is having a 4.7" to control the camera, attached to the camera, and a 702 super bright for monitoring of the gimbal.

Was considering 702 Super Bright but hoping that the regular 702 plus a sun hood will be bright enough in exteriors. Weight wise the Small HD's are around .8lbs lighter than the 7'' Red Pro Touch so that's definitely a factor too.

Keep in mind, putting a sun hood on a monitor is going to limit your viewing angle which is critical on gimbal work. What once was up to a 70 degree viewing angle becomes 20 degrees (approximate but you get the idea). You'd be better off getting the HB version when oping gimbals.

Good point for sure. Is the Super Bright version bright enough for daylight viewing? Still reflections would have to be an issue. What do you do in bright daylight? Seen that you run a 5'' red pro touch on your rig.

If the sun is hitting the screen direction (like direct LOS) then even the HB version is not bright enough but in most other scenarios, it's bright enough to see the image, but not bright enough for critical focus work (I'd hope you have a 1st AC for that).

I use the Avegant Glyph's for gimbal monitoring. Work well...and you can still see where you are walking on the ground. Ultra high resolution too! Great for pulling your own focus.

That thing looks insane! Never heard of it before, very cool. Pair that with the armorman and that's full on Robocop territory.
