Why Andrew Lesnie shot his lastest feature "Healing" on Alexa instead of Epic?

Obviously, he can shoot the feature on any camera and deliver amazing pictures, but as far as I know Lesnie is actually excited about the Dragon and upcoming next-gen sensors in general. I think it was American Cinematographer in an article about The Hobbit, he said something along the lines, that he's expecting the next (Red) sensor to be way more sensitive in both shadows and highlights (than film) and eliminate the remaining CMOS rolling shutter effects (now that we know the Motion mount specs, the request for internal NDs has been answered too). There is so much choice out there now at any price point, it's all good.

I know im beating a dead horse but i have a point.

Clearly the Dragon upgrades at NAB was not a success with the power supply issue. So whats my point? Well I think what RED did wrong was announce "Dragon Starts Now" and put their foot into that areane by announcing we will only reveal tech when it's ready. All that did was show me you guys need to stick to who you are. Don't pretend to be Canon or Sony. You're not, in the sense your infrastructure, attitude, everything about you guys challenges the system! So no need to make an issue by saying we will only announce when ready because you guys are ALWAYS changing...upgrading and improving! So its never 100% perfect.

In my mind, going back to the original rogue/ we don't give a funk what the other guys think and what they are doing attitude! and simply making this amazing tech with no hard shipping guarantees/ upgrades is the way to go. you guys are always late thats part of the RED DNA and it doesnt need to be changed! Yes, everything changes in terms of RED and shit happens so let's just keep rolling as usual no reason to become a "Canon" or "Sony" to announce a camera and firm ship date. They are behind for a reason... Keep taking chances and living by the beat of the RED drum. After all that's part of the reason we all fell in love

This is truly how all the greats live! just my random crazy thoughts...but I hope you hear me Jim. You've only done good, please stick to your guns and don't become like the other guys!
