  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED… the good, the bad and the ugly.

Yeah I knew it during NAB even I was not there in Las Vegas.

It's not so easy and takes a lot of time...

This post is just before summer that means something really new about Dragon and the rest will be in early fall, IBC or even later...

These are my estimates and of course that I could be totally wrong here...

At the end I wish you all a wonderful summer...!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tick tock, tick tock: Always running out of time. Right now I have to know it finally...Shot on Nikon D800, applied Fujifilm look.

Write little, especially in RECON, but this owe cry out

Many have said to me that if I bought RED, i would not have had jobs more.
Is not true!!!
Now I work 90% RED Epic and I also started rental :001_cool:
And my personal productions are much more than quality, and I advertise.

Come on guys! Wait happy if I brings me another job in the future (REDRAY, Projector...)
All my moral support, keep it up!!

Remember how long it took to get Epic out? And that turned out amazingly well!! I'm sure this will be deja vu all over again, which is a GOOD thing!

A commercial director friend "nudged" me into buying a Red One many years ago. I wanted a personal digital camera to help me learn while making the transition from 35mm to digital. That "personal camera" went on to shoot part of Book of Eli and was faithfully with me as I DP'd 2nd unit on Spiderman.

Best decision I have made in a long long time...(besides marrying my beautiful wife)

Hanging your head, really!? I mean, your company motto literally states nothing is certain, except that you don't know what you're doing so expect uncertainty. As a customer, I read that, consider it, and decide, in or out? I went in because of what you've already delivered, and I believe you will continue to do so. I just screened my first Scarlet short in DCP at the local theater, that's when I knew I made the right call. Fahgettaboutit!

Apple used to be like this. I miss that about Apple. I love this about RED.

Thanks Jim.

Awesome.

My 2 cents (with inflation are even worth less these days!)

RED is accused of Machoism. I personally love it! RED is anything but a boring company, some people hate it, some people love it. I don't think there is a more divisive camera company out there. But RED keeps me on my toes of what's next. (Where is that depth mapping?!!!!!! I am drooling over the possibilities. I know it was just a quick mention. Still ... )

Anyways speaking as a lower end customer, if RED was not as transparent, they would have missed my business and I would be sitting with an AF-100. The transparency gives me time to save and plan a road map. Again, the Dragon for the Scarlet gives me plenty of time to save a prepare for the downtime.

Am I critical of RED sometimes, absolutely, but I do believe in the product. Sometimes I get annoyed at some of the directions RED goes and late arrivals, but if I did not care, I would not be annoyed.

And thank you for keeping jobs in the US, it does mean something to this customer. Keep up the good work.

How does that saying go ..... "Always late, but worth the wait"!

Sure you've been late(ish) but come on, this is big stuff. And along the way you have told us about the moving target dates. We know "all things subject to and will change".

Thank you for pouring your heart and soul into these cameras!

Personally I like hearing even if the product is late with a year or so. I find your openess refreshing. Don't listen to the upset people. We know that you may be late. I really do appreciate knowing what is coming down the line like with the Meizler. It has several benefits of knowing:
- we don't buy another solution that will be less good
- we can give feedback to your solution. Hey can't you include ..... sometimes those feedbacks can make all the difference
- we can plan for the future. Already planning of how I will use the Meizler later when it arrives and I can afford it. Same with Dragon.

Best wishes
/Andreas

To me, open and complete communication is always welcomed, and comforting. If I can sense what is happening behind the scenes and certain things about timing, it gives me a lot to go on in terms of my own planning and expectations. RED has usually been good, no GREAT, at that but I'll admit, every once in a while, when they decide to keep mum, it is agonizing.

I'd love to hear some musings about the projector, the player, ODEMAX, the various new modules, the fan upgrades, things like the REDmote Pro (which hasn't been discussed in eons) and, especially, the timing on the Scarlet/Epic trade-ups. Jim, Jarred just keep the info flowing, even if it's off-the-cuff and unofficial.

Also - I love firmware updates!! Feels like a new camera.

Just to be clear... Dragon is going to take longer now due to more issues?

I don't think they'll say exactly how long this will take to clear up... but... from what i gather... as soon as they get the redesigned power supplies from the manufacturer, they will start spitting out upgraded cameras...

Jarred gave an estimated time of a couple of weeks for those parts to roll in...

Some of the projects i've worked on had serious production delays... this doesn't sound like a serious delay... in fact... i'd be willing to bet that they were ready to ship the NAB cameras until they found the noise in the sensor data from the power supplies..

luckily... that is a minor snag... and it gives them the extra time they need to tweak the firmware/software we'll all be using...

Jarred.. I have a question... what exactly is this new color science? Is it a new interface for colorists? new algorithms to handle the massive data stream that a 6k video file is sure to have?... I'm curious... not in a "wanna stir some trouble" way... but in a "that sounds really freaking cool, what are they talking about?" way.
