  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Team: What's up with Cross-Platform command-line RED tools?

So it take it there is no render out to DPX workflow for LINUX yet.

Is any one working towards it? I would like to be part of the effort, in any way I can.

btw, how does one score a RED Linux SDK?

I wonder why nobody at RED has bothered themselves to answer Bruce's very valid question. There's no doubt in my mind that RED is favoring the Mac platform. I wrote and asked when we could expect the REDLine tool for Windows almost a year ago and got the answer "We're hoping to have a windows command line in the next 4-6 weeks.". Still nothing almost a year later. I can only assume that it hasn't been released because of politics and some wierd consideration towards the Mac platform. Now - I'm primarily a Mac myself, but I do like to have options and would have loved having a command line utility for Windows.

I was impressed that Silicon Imaging is using an embedded version of Iridas SpeedGrade with their SI2K camera. They can deal with the camera development. Iridas deals with the look/color developement.

I guess that Red wants to keep as much development in-house as possible.

And don't forget...Cineform deals with the codec. Since the SI2K wavelet is cineform...

still a pity RED doesn't comment.
RED has its SDK available for Win and Linux, so the code is there.
My guess is RED can control speed and apps better via their SDK.
Doesn't make any sense to keep people from using command line driven batch encoding except they want users to use apps with integrated SDK.
PITA for customers who want to use their renderfarms.
