Just trying to fire up my new Red Station 1.8 Module connected to my Macbook Pro running OS X 10.5.8 but the Red Station and Red Mag are not being recognized. Can anybody help me out with this. Not sure if it requires a newer OS. Running 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

When I connect the module nothing happens. No message or icon appears. I have tried both Firewire 800 and USB using multiple cables in case that might be the problem. When the computer it booted up and running, I then connect the module and there is no indication that the module is connected. However, when I reboot the computer with the module connected to the computer, I get the proverbial grey screen and spinning disk UNTIL I unplug the module and then the computer promptly boots. And after the successful boot, I again connect the module and still there is no indication that the module and SSD card are connected.

silly question, but gotta cover all the really basic stuff first. is the power plugged in and the power switch on? fw800 usually powers it up, but since you have a older mac it might need a little more power to it for it to work. if you've already done, that I'd see if you can get it to a comp with a newer os and see if that mounts. if it does, than deductively it's probably a model/os issue with the mac.

Hello Tom, I have tried connecting with both the AC power and USB power. The unit is indeed receiving power. I have looked for documentation as what OS X operating system the Red Station might require. The latest PDF instruction manual for the Red Station is dated 2010.

I had this happen on a commercial job yesterday--2 cameras--no amount of disk utility / cable switching / SSD reseating worked. Switching from rental red station to mine, no problems. Time to buy a backup of everything in the case...

2010 was still snow leopard days, might be a contributing variable. but honestly it really "shouldn't matter, the ssds are formatted at fat32. they should be able to mount on any OS. might just be a faulty unit. is this unit brand new or have you had it working before and suddenly it doesn't? i think the final trouble shooting solutions are finding a higher version mac os to try it on, and or windows. the rest will be RED support.

Unit is brand new and out of the box. Have never had it connected until last night when I discovered there was no indication that it was taking to my system. What concerns me is that my system will not boot with the Red Station connected. Hopefully somebody from Red will chime in.

Are the red SSDs formatted in camera? It does seem odd that you can't boot with station connected... As if the Machine is confused, thinking the SSD might be a startup disk, then refuses to acknowledge it. You FireWire port has no other problems?

I wish I could help in some way. Dead Lonesome is the most inspiring slice of the Internet, hope your camera and laptop can start talking to each other soon...

I have trouble connecting via ESATA to red station, I use Thunderbolt Sonnet adapter to my MacBook, I can read external Esata drives but never recognized the redmag reader any tips.

I had the same "problem" when I first used the redstation. Turned out I didn't push the SSD enough; they weren't fully seated. The station I was using had a particularly stiff fit.... I would definitely double check the SSD and whether it's fully seated.

cheers

Hey Joe,

Have you verified the permissions using RED Watchdog? If the disk is "Read Only" the RED Station wont mount-therefore you have to change the permissions to "Read & Write" using Watchdog.

Hey Pablo,

If you're connecting via eSata,my experience using a MBP is you have to insert the Express Card into the laptop while powered down with the RED Station attached and when you power up it appears on the desktop.

Hope this helps guys...

Hey Joe,
I had the same problem with AC power and FW800 to MBP Lion. I would have to turn the RedMag on and off to get the volume to show up in the finder. I installed the Latest Red Cine-X Pro and now there is a little Red icon on the main menu bar (Red Watch Dog I believe) where you can change read/write settings and mount or eject the volume. The red mag comes up fine now.
