Yup, my all time favorite program in the whole world.... BTW I'm going to take a little artistic license to make things easier, hopefully I will capture the essence of the original design.

Oh and regarding the sillystring, there are those spiderman toys you can pick up which you attach to your wrist to shoot out the spider string.. Their quite small i believe, little carbon pressurised cylinders.

Solidworks is awesome. You gotta add to it anyway to make it a working design. I think anything you add to it will make it look even more badass!

The original image Jim posted was actually done in solidworks in the first place heh heh heh... Solidworks indeed kicks ass.

ok... I'm just floating a balloon here.. what about something like this.. I put the beer can for size reference. I'm still gonna put the "head" thats in the image above... the little shiny spot on the cover are going to be ultrasonic sensors so that the little guys will lie dormant until someone walks by and it detects movement - then it pounces!

i want one!!!! :)

Curt, you're in the wrong business

Do you have anymore info on your FIZ system? Is it best to set an appointment or drop by your booth at NAB?

Cheers
Scott

I have tons of stuff on our FIZ system... I'll update everyone in a couple weeks. That roboraptor is childs play.. wait to you see the final rendering of this robot, its gonna be crazy.

Seriously Curt, if you decide to sell 'em (with RED approval if necessary) I am interested. It would be a great "watchspider" for guarding gear in the field given the sensors you describe!

Plus it would drive our dogs absolutely nuts...

For those of you that weren't there at the Sundance Red party, we got shirts with the Red Spider on them.

OK, so I can see who ISN'T trying to make new friends. :)

Ok, here's another update.. its a little in flux but I have it all working mechanically. I'm going to polish up some of the components and toss in the electronics then make the vacuum form skin for it :)

im 1015 i got a R :) but i was in the first batch of res holders.. oct

Jeez... I'm RED #791 and I still haven't received my "R". I faxed the signed contract in November, and scanned and emailed a second one in mid-January, just in case. Does anyone know if there are others in my situation? I guess I'll email Kelly.

Curt,
Brainstorming your laser idea...how about three laser beams shooting off the three red spots, casting "R" letter at the surface where those beams are hitting at. Something like the Batman light beam signal that he send out to the air. Yeah, if those red beams can cast R's in the air during the NAB, how cool would that be? I don't know if this would break any regulations of NAB, but, hey, someone could check it out.

Nook

If you could add a compartment for dry ice, and aim the lasers through the smoke/fog. would definitely look cooler and scary-er. Would also make a Red R or logo more visible.

Curt,

I get the actuation of the joints but what pattern makes your little hellion walk forwards?

Food for thought:

Thats awesome... I've done 2 legged and 8 legged robots before, there is tons of online advice on how to make it work but 4 legs still a little tricky. I worked out a couple ideas and the main thing to look at is weight distribution. You always need to have at least three legs down and then center the mass close to the centroid of the triangle created by the three contact points on the ground.

That video basically shows exactly what I was thinking about.. if you look closely you can see the baby shifting its weight away from the limb thats moving forward.

Thanks for the heads up.
