  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED-specific motion control features?

Baby steps Stephen.. :) You can do quite a bit with pan and tilt. We have external axis control as well so the system can be expanded to include dolly. When we decide to tackle the full 6 DOF jib I can guarantee that it will be a fraction of Milos $500K? pricetag.

I was thinking of you, Curt, when I said I was hoping for cheaper MoCo rigs within the next couple years. I'd like the Mirus pan/tilt head on an off the shelf tripod with your remote follow focus/zoom on a standard track. Like the Ulti-Head track and lift options, all for less than $50k (not including tripod or track), and available separately.

You just have to change your whole perception on how much things cost because we have and we intend to pass that knowledge onto our customers.

Hi Ralph,

Probably very little, most MOCO's have a Mitchell that's thrown in in the deal! As MOCO is often effects based, it can be a very slow and boring process, where very little film is actually shot. On my last MOCO shoot I used one 400' roll of film in 3 days!

If you saw the latest James Bond, my footage was part of an Omega commercial that showed before the film.

Stephen

Edit Out of interest if one shoots a 3 frame per second exposure with a Red, do you gain 3 stops as in Film?
Thanks for your input, Stephen! Well, you oughta know about this MOCO stuff--I dunno beans about it. But I do remember someone mentioning some RED-specific features for MOCO applications. The MOCO guys mentioned working with a lot of different cameras, including an SR-tethered F950, a Viper, and some high-speed video camera I can't rememeber the name of (records only 15 seconds to an array). The operator had never heard of RED before, but seemed interested in demoing it. Didn't see Bond film, but checked out your site--gorgeous work!

Don't know the answer to your RED question. I know in DSLRs, extremely long exposure times used to have issues with noise (dark current issue?), but probably doesn't apply to RED. Would like to know myself what the max exposure time is for RED.
