  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Maybe it's partly from my early RED branded case (supposedly Jarred himself did the honors?), but has anyone else noticed how great the RED smells? I mean, I've had mine for years, flown around the USA with it, too, and it just... smells really good.

I'm not being facetious. It's something I notice every time I pull #2464 out.

My other cameras never smelled this good, and I don't think I'm being biased.
 
No, it has a nice new electronics smell. Like old game cartridges when they were new. Reminds me of that.
 
When I first opened up the new Scarlet that came in, I couldn't help but notice the difference between her and Epic X. Epic is ready for battle, whereas Scarlet is more timid, feminine. She is unsure of whether or not she will be doing the shooting, or whether she herself will be shot, and uploaded to YouTube where everyone makes fun of her, saying she's "too smart" and "is too detail oriented" and "costs too much". Epic knows he won't be subjected to the torturous scrutinization of the ill-informed community yet Scarlet has to power down at night having nightmares of people caring more about the number on her ass than the 4K imagery she brings to life...

My Scarlet is quietly humming at 45%, getting ready for a black shade. What do I smell? What do I feel? Heat, for one thing... But I also sense hope. Hope that she will be able to team up with her buddies Ray and Lazer so she can show up the competition by projecting the best 4k footage the world has ever seen.

And it's all thanks to the guys at RED Digital Cinema. Thank you for making my dream of a great smelling camera come true. I will not let your girl down.

you should let your equipment/packaging offgas for a little while in the open air before you start sniffing it... not good for your brain cells. otherwise, sniff away - it is a nice, professional aroma ;)

My Silver is treated like a star actress on set. Once everybody else is ready, then you bring her in to work. Also, as per her contract, we've changed the 'camera speed! - action!' commands to simply 'Hi-Yo Silver! - Away!' This lets us know when Silver is ready to ride, and the actors take their cue to follow suit. :) She's quite the little diva... but I think she's just in that phase right now.
 
Haha! That's pretty funny, both in the traditional sense, as well as in The Office uncomfortably awkward sense... 'Hi-Yo Silver! - Away!' indeed. I can just picture it.

:) really helps with the vibe of the set when i've got young actors and actresses. even better if you've got an ugly producer breathing down your neck. helps us all remember to have fun, it's all about the environment you can create for magic to happen. i recommend it!
 
my blood is red. no doubt about it. hope that's clear enough.

anyone can make a camera... red makes community. that's why i'm here.
