hello everybody!

I was wondering whether RED is shipped outside the US and how long it takes to get it.

I've been saving to buy one and I think I'll be ready to place my order soon.

Regards,

Unless something is on backorder, from when funds reach RED, probably only a few days now they've caught up with camera orders.

Then when it reaches your country you'll have to pay any customs duty and sales tax due before it clears customs and is finally delivered to you. A few more days there.

Shipping is costy. For us to France was like 1200$ or so, but we had EVERYTHING (4 huge boxes, on of which the Red Pelicase)...

Do not underestimate the VAT and import duty on your end... It's a bitch and you might want to save a bit more for that... It's a bitch to have your camera at arms reach and stuck in customs for ages until you can pay...

Secret trick (please don't tell ANYONE): open a Fedex account, be real nice to the Fedex girl, and ask Red to use your account instead. You'll get delivered and they'll mail the invoices (VAT & Custom) to you later... Buys time and you get your gear dead on.

Then pay Fedex (the girl might be flexible if you are really nice... You know what they say, in this business, sometimes you have to sleep with someone, and in this case, it's worth sleeping with the Fedex girl...)

Note that if you don't have a FedEx account, that if you don't make arrangements to pay duty and sales tax due, your shipment will be returned to RED after 7 days (in the UK)!

So with installments, that's like 1000€ a day to clear the bill for a full package...

Hoping (for your sake) that your local fedex girls are lookers... ;)

At Fedex Paris, they're pretty cute, and even then, honestly, considering the tariff, (I had like 7000€) I'd sleep with a dog!

I was gonna say- you haven't been to the FedEx office near me yet. I'd just pay the duties...

FedEx here in Norway was phantastic. They even let me pick up the camera straight from the airport, giving me an extra weekend with our beloved Red One.

Also, I called FedEx the moment I had my tracking number, that way all import papers were sorted while the shipment was still on its way out of the United States. By the time it arrived here, everything was paid and ready to go.

There are a couple of threads giving out the exact tariff codes you should try to get in order to avoid customs duties. Though there have been some suggestions that customs are tightening in their rules. So, basically, try to be proactive, friendly and this might just make a difference of not just a couple of days, but also a good amount of money.

Another way to be delayed of the vat invoice is to have two different adresses

One for the delivery, and one for the bill.

Also, call fedex before the package arrives, as you can do the tarification with the guy/girl, and choose which number YOU want, before it arrives on the customs office.

The guy were nice, and offers to lower the taric price of some items. But warn me, the customs guys can still do a random check.

thinking of that, i realize now, the most expensive parts were the battery, and the 24" rod. because it contains some toxic elements and aluminium...

One other thing to think about is simply flying in and picking it up in person. In some countries you end up paying a mountain of duties or it gets damaged in the shipping or they end up rejecting it entirely. All just kinda depends on how much of a PITA the customs agents in your country happen to be.
