Guys does the SDI live out form red have the same timecode?
Or maybe using the TC out from the camera?

I am thinking about record the feed to prores for a very very very rush job...

will the re-conform work if i record the TC out ?or there will be some known issues ?

Thanks

The 720 HD SDI output does not have the same timecode as the r3d footage--essentially it's a completely different signal (in that the first frame you record as ProRes will be 0001, while the r3d will be whatever it is, time of day, etc).

You can sync up in post via slating...

Or, depending how "rush" your job is, and how long the footage is, you can transcode the r3ds to a very low quality version (eg 1/4 debayer to NTSC resolution) and that footage will have the same timecode, so would make relinking to original footage much easier (using something like Clipfinder).

HD-SDI timecode

HD-SDI timecode

Yes, the embedded timecode in the PVW HD-SDI is a match to the .R3D timecode.

What your recorder or capture card does with that timecode value I can't answer for you.

If shooting at 23.976 is it a timecode with pulldown and 30fps timecode? Or it is a modified 720p at 23.976 with 23.976 timecode?

HD-SDI timecode

HD-SDI timecode

If you are shooting at a TIME BASE of 23.98, then the timecode embedded in the HD-SDI will also be on a 23.98 base.

i.e. as the video frames are repeated (in a 2:3 pulldown pattern) to make 59.94 images each second, so will the timecode values be repeated.

The camera provides a "new frame" flag in HD-SDI metadata, so a capture card - with appropriate software - could toss out all "repeat" frames..

Ouch... repeated 24TC.

Does the repeat flag follow any existing standards? If the full 30fps timecode was generated, then timecodes on :x2 and :x7 could get dropped with no need for special flags.

Thanks guys

off course I know about processing the r3d etc..

The proxie are an option but on a laptop I think only the 1k proxie is usable and it looks like crap...

A prores from the 720p would look much much better...

The project will be 23.98 ,
what about the TC out from the red?
Will that give to the Aja I/o the correct timecode input?

Thanks
