I'm ready to spoil my RED with a new toy:" The DJI Ronin 3 Axis Gimbal. While watching all the promo and demo videos I noticed the REDs never have bricks on them. It could be a weight preference but I only use BRICK so, has anyone tried to mount a RED with BRICK on this Gimbal?

Yes. I just finished directing a feature where my Scarlet Dragon was being used. We had it on a 3 axis gimbal on the DJI ronin, with +1 adaptor and RED Brick. Took the guys some time to balance but she ran perfectly and got a smooth steady shot. Poor operator almost died after 14 takes of a 4 minute tracking shot. But in the end, it was worth it. Looks great.

Would be better to use REDVOLTS. But we had none available at the time.

I usually try to just stick to Redvolts on mine if I can. It seems to work best for weight and it feels like it's the easiest way to balance it. If I have to use bricks I usually put an A mount and the plate on the bars. The first time I ever used one, a few weeks before I owned mine and didn't get to test out different options, we had thin eBay bricks attached to the side where the handle would be. That was a pain to balance. But I guess people are liking putting the brick on the back? That seems like it would severely limit the tilt and be hard to balance? How are people making that work?

I shot for45 days with small bricks on the side. Got used to balancing it quickly. I found that if I put the brick at the back I will not be able to calibrate it as the camera cannot tilt 90 degrees down.

We had a wireless Follow Focus system with pretty heavy Cinema Lenses on the front, so the brick at the back with the lenses and follow focus upfront kinda balanced themselves. Still not the best solution, but it worked for us at the time.

2-3 weeks away from having the side V-mount in stock and decent quantity. As I have said before - the weight with IDX E-7S is comparable to the SH+REDVOLT combo and it provides 2-3x the runtime while actually being more compact. Almost there folks...

I got myself a RED battery belt clip and that seems to be doing the trick just fine for me. No arm extensions needed.

If it doesn't fit, you can install a the vmount plate onto the bar of the gimbal and run a long 1B power cable to the DSMC

Hey Erick,

I was looking for this solution but didn't find how i can install a vmount onto the bar, do you have some ref ?

thanks !

Alex

We struggled with this on last feature shoot.

Ended up living on REDVOLTs.
