Hi everyone,

I have a question that doesn't seem to be answered anywhere on this site. I've been searching everywhere, I've been talking to filmmaker friends of mine, I've even called RED asking "When will an actual Scarlet ship?". I get the same answer from everyone... "No idea."

Now the first RED Scarlet was announced in early 2008, with an expected ship date of early 09. This product was scrapped for a concept that is much better, and was expected to be in the hands of those who pre-ordered before Fall 2009.

It is now Fall 2009, and everyone seems to be waiting head over heels for an announcement on October 30th of the final camera design (as it appears to have changed yet again), but with a warning that it will ship later than expected. Pre-orders won't even be available on that date, just more information that is supposed to blow us away. Now I don't doubt one bit that it will blow us away... I appreciate just as much as the next person the time and hard work that RED is putting in to give us the dream camera. But at this point it seems to be just that... a dream. Nothing appeals to me more than their concept for the RED Scarlet, but nothing appeals to me less than it being just a concept. I'm starting to fear that RED might again doubt the concept, and in a few months announce they have a completely new vision and scrap what they've done, just like the last time.

I love RED, I think they are miles ahead of the industry in many ways. But when will we see a physical product? I hope that Jannard's idea of a "schedule hit" is a shipping product in a month or two, and not "Summer 2010".

Hi Michael, the main thing RED will be announcing on Oct. 30th is the beta testing period and ship dates for the Epic and Scarlet cameras.

RED will also be clarifying the specifications and features of the brains and modules that they have working right now.

Let me ask you a question... this might be obvious as I'm new to the site, but will the beta testing period be public, or limited to Red One owners/famous filmmakers? I've never been able to afford the Red One, and the Scarlet deeply intrigues me as I could afford one. However, this business of rewarding loyal RED One customers makes me worried that a regular consumer, who might want to be a part of a beta, won't be allowed to because I never owned a RED One. I for one would love to put up with beta testing... do you think someone like me would get the chance?

Thanks a lot for your response.

It seems likely that the proof run beta testers will be pros with extensive R1 experience. People that were heavily involved with early R1 development process.

It has been less than a year since the Dec. 3 08 announcement of the new program. That is a very short time frame to take such a complex and sophisticated camera system from concept to working production prototypes. This process, that RED has been so open about sharing here would have been done completely behind closed doors if it were any other company. Relax and enjoy the ride.

Part of what RED will be announcing on the 30th is how the DSMC beta testing will work. All Jim has said at this point is that it will not be similar to the way the RED One was tested.

We do have a plan for complete testing in this community, just different than the 1st time around. We will be transparent as always... that part of the philosophy has not changed.

I will clarify most of this Oct. 30th.

When, when, when?...

When, when, when?...

Greetings Michael.

First of all, I want to thank you for adressing this issue, that most people seem to forget. I stated that on another thread and people jumped right into my post, claiming, amongst other things, that I was not able to understand and particpate in this project, of colabortation, that's this is always elvolving, and so on.

Of course evreything evolves. Everything, not just RED products.

On IBC '09 the word around was that "RED is never REaDy". I think it's self explanatory.

I made a long statement, saying about the same that you say here. These conceptual things, are extreemely interesting. But we're not investigators in a University. We're professionals and we need sometihng to work with. As to colaboration as I said previously, that's one more reason to put something out, for us to test and send feedback. That is actual colaboration.

Back to what you said, I fully subscribe.

RED anounced Scarlet and Epic and just in top of the big release, they break up with incredible news of a new concept. The catch, we have to wait, patiently because these things take time. Is it really necessary to state the obvious?

Then, as you so well said, the estimated scheduke released dates went of the charts, not summer, we're in fall and winter is on it's way.

October 30. Big comunication, so it seems. Garanties? None.
Remeber everything changes, including prices specs...

Curiously there were a lot of things that didn't change.

1. Scarlet/Epic information, dated from 8 December 2008.
2. RED One is the only camera available.
3. All this suspense, like if something is stalling the whole process.
4. Garanties. Still none.
5. Policy. No change at all.

I love the RED concepts and I've been following RED's work from the very beginning, patiently waiting.

Well I'm afraid to said that I will not wait any longer. If in day 30 RED comes with something real, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt! If RED comes with more grounbreaking projects and conepts only, the I must say that I will out of the boat this time. Perhaps the next time.

"You will not be disapointed". I already am. For the recurring delays.
My answer is "Time is Money".

So, when RED efectively puts something out, I'll be watching. If, in the mean time I've already made an option for another brand... Alas! That's RED's loss, not mine.

So, Michael I join your quest and still ask, as I've done for more thane year.
When? When? When?

We no the concept, the specs, have an idea of the price, so I say it's time to move on. If RED doens't feel that way, once again it will be their loss. People wait, but not forever. I surely wont.

Thanks again for bringing to light the real issue, that most people seem not interested in talking about. It gives an impression of a fan club. The Rednatics. Nothing against then or RED. Everyone is intitled to have their policy. Mine deviates from this.

Best regarsds to Michael and everyone, including this great community and the RED team that put us all together.

All the best.

My recommendation for training is to buy a set of Mexican Train. Then play with 7 other people. You will quickly learn the art of "I don't care what's going on and I'm not going to get my hopes up until it's my turn." :D

You mean something like this?... :mad5:

"Ezequiel 25:17 - The path of the righteous man (...) and the tirany of evil men (...) And you will know my name is the Lord, when I lay my vengace upon thee"

And then... :gun:

If things tunr out to be more stalling... I'll just...
