Hi Guys,

Just received my Red Scarlet-W. It's my first Red camera, so I've been reading and studying everything I can about the different color space and gamma curve options and in what context you should use them.

Like most of you here, I've also been reading up on IPP2. Since we only have access to the benefits of IPP2 in post, I'm curious to see if and how you are all implementing it in your workflow. For example, if you wanted to select from the IPP2 output tone map and highlight roll-off options, do some additional editing in Premiere, and ultimately finish the grade in Resolve, how would you go about doing that?

Any input welcome!

You can use it in-camera on dragon cameras by selecting log310 and rwg and applying one of the provided luts in preview.

Not as easy as a Helium drop down menu but still useable.

You'd have to upgrade to the IPP2 beta firmware to do that? Nervous to upgrade because of all the bugs people are talking about in the IPP2 thread.

i saw this yesterday when taking a peek at the manual, i'm not sure its still the case or relevant to IPP2

" LUTS
NOTE: Since the 3D LUT modifes the data displayed for the exposure tools, you cannot use the exposure tools with a

3D LUT.

You can output a 3D lookup table (LUT) via each monitor output. Any 3D LUT applied to an output is saved to the SSD. "

What is everyone's go to look settings when shooting on the Scarlet-W?

I really like the look of IPP2, and I have tried the Beta version, but since it's not full implementation it's risky to use on paid jobs.

For quick turnarounds I am hearing Red Colour 2, Red Gamma 4 is a good combo - but interested to hear what others are doing?

Hey Josh. Had zero issues with it, except that the IPP2 implementation isn't in Resolve yet so you need to get to the desired gamma/rolloff via the supplied LUTs until the release SDK is released to developers. Just emailed you by the way :)

rwg/log310 on my S-W.

Yes, 6.3 is the latest 'release' build.
Also, Scarlet W can infact preview the new IPP2 LUTs in camera while shooting, as long as they've been converted to 17x17x17 LUTs. They've been made available a few times in previous threads. Otherwise let me know and I'll link them up here. Set your color space in camera to RWG/Log3G10 in the menu and go to the next column in the same menu and choose one of the LUTs after you've installed them from your minimag. The installation process can also be found in a walk through somewhere in a previous thread. I'll try and find it as well.
It's sort of 'faux' IPP2 on SW since the LUTs are only 17x17x17 instead of the full 32x32x32, but its pretty damn close, and you can indeed see the results of the new color science by using them, in camera.
Hope that sheds some light.
Cheers
Kris

Kris would you mind posing those Scarlet-W IPP2 LUTS and the installation process you mentioned? I'm having a hard time finding the thread.
