Experts ,

I am first time putting my $$ on RED and starting off with the Scarlet W 5K EF mount . I sort of like the look of Zeiss Milvus 35mm and have an option to get the 50mm f1.4 and 85mm f1.4 at a ex-demo purchase price.

Currently I am using Sigma 18-35mm, Zeiss milvus 35mm, Canon 50mm, Canon 85mm f1.8, Helios 44-2 58mm vintage with my kinefinity terra6k.

I need a few suggestion if i should expand my Milvus primes to have consistent look, if yes, which primes would be ideal apart from 35mm.

If not the milvus, will the Sigma cine lenses a good alternative - i have not seen much footages yet to make a decision. At this stage, i cannot afford Otus, Xeen kit or other.

Hey man, I don't hav Milvus but the older ZF lenses (and ZE's prior). And a Sigma 18 - 35. In my opinion the Zeiss lenses have a bit more punch, a bit more personality to them and yes they are more consistent. The Sigma is super clean, a great lens but perhaps a bit cleaner / more clinical looking. Less personality but very solid (totally subjective.

If you were going to get two other lenses I'd consider the 85 and 21 or 28. (but the 100mm macro is awesome too but I find myself reaching for the 85 more often for character shots)

Yeah, I think the milvus 85mm f1.4 to replace the canon is a better idea. Not sure how much benefit i will get with the 50mm focal length when i have the 35mm. Otherwise, the initial thought was keep 35,50,85 as primes and keep Sigma 18-35mm prime for wide shots + aerial works.

I sold my Zeiss distagon classics 15mm which I used for aerial work. Agree the sigma have its own look and the milvus have different and again the Helios have that vintage look. I can see that there is 21mm with milvus

I was reading about the Milvus 21 and 28 and they seems to be very soft lenses - the series picks up in quality from the 35mm onwards as i read .

I have the Milvus 50 and 85 for my Scarlet and I absolutely love them. Nice bokeh and sharp but not video sharp. I think they look smooth on my Scarlet.

Sigma Cine are about the same price bracket as Otus, and significantly more expensive than Xeen. So you can pretty much cross any of those off your list.

Adam, i just ordered ex-demo from the distributor - both Milvus 50mm f1.4 and 85mm f1.4 . I was a bit confused if i should have the 50mm as i have the Milvus 35mm f2.

True - even after my dealer discount , i cannot afford them at this stage :)

We just invested in the 35 mm f/2, 50 mm 1.4 and the 85mm 1.4 for a recent project... And I'm loving them. Sharp with great contrast and colors. I got the Nikon mount in order to benefit from the clickless aperture ring and it works like a charm! I still need to read into the 35 mm 1.4 to see if it's worth reinvesting in that one too..
