Red Scarlet vs BMC

I want to see a good movie shot on the Scarlet with good Cinematography. Not on R1 or Epic. Is there any?

This is freaking Alexa quality stuff right here, for 3k$.

Few little less graded shots:

Oh Josh, you have a long way to go my friend. Don't know where, but you do.

Josh - Kholi is a Mod at DVX & BMC User.

Here's the thread if other Redusers want to have a look a look: http://www.bmcuser.com/showthread.php?2209-Project-Stills-(pending-title)-and-Video

He is an experienced professional - he knows how to light and frame - and understands that each camera is simply an extension of his own skills and expertise.

I'd suggest you start off with a BMC and use that as your springboard into the industry, as the TCO is less than either the Scarlet or Epic that you've been looking at.

Just consider that for every Kholi there are hundreds of talentless people with the same tools... and they will produce images that won't even look as good as a DSLR.

It's all about the hands that are using the camera.

Josh, I'm not staying this is a useless argument, but this is the RED forum. Know thy audience.

Many here aren't willing to second guess their camera or red products. This forum is very useful for red users despite it's tendency to circle jerk from time to time.

This discussion is best on a neutral forum like 2pop, dv etc... You won't find consensus here.

Haha, in your face haters :))

Is BMCUSER owned by Jarred?

Ok I got it with this question.

Wow this topic really did get out of hand.

Yep he owns all three sites.

What does it all mean in regards to RED?

Seriously learn something about Digital Cinema, stay on topic.

You will not learn anything on pitting camera vs camera, software vs software etc....

Life's to short, just shoot RED ;)

Oh Robert you are now on my ignore list.

Sorry you just got a little too out there for me :P

I'd say it's all relative to what site you frequent what camera you own and the pure number of people and different personalities on a given forum. From my perspective all other sites(as well as this one) dedicated to one camera or way of thinking tend to have their own circle jerks, but the thing is once you put yourself in their shoes you begin to see it's all the same people, passionate about their product, and are willing to defend it against FUD, even if sometimes they may come off a little over zealous and rambunctious.

We are all much more similar that we ever realize, or admit.

Happy holidays, and a very merry Christmas eve to all!

Jarred owning bmcuser.com just confirms the fact that BMC is high grade cinema camera when it comes to image quality.

Oh Eric I'm shivering. I am on your ignore list. wow so scary. You have always been a ass-licker who does also not stay on topic but just hate on anyone that says anything that does not go with your thoughts. By the way who are you? What have you shot? Of course BMC is a good camera and RED is also good. But I guess in your world anything that is not pro RED is on your ignore list. Why shouldn't people be able to express their thoughts in this thread that clearly says "Red Scarlet vs BMC"?

He also owns DVXuser, so it's more a case of being an astute businessman and seeing opportunities... and less to do with the camera in question.

I note from the BMC user thread that you're now awaiting a BMC camera - are you getting this and an Epic (or Scarlet) now?

The BMC is basically going to be the new 5DMKII for a while over the next few months - especially if they can sort out their production (and then supply) problems.

However, with such a choice of 4K acquisition (& beyond) systems now, all with S35 sized sensors, the BMC will be a niche. A very large niche, I think, but one that will feed the crowd that have moved on from DSLR but can't afford the path to higher end systems like Sony or RED (the same people that find it hard to accept media costs - or the price of an EVF - or the extra costs that VAT/Tax add to systems that are purchased etc).

The smaller than M43 sensor will limit the BMC use in large productions IMO, as the 7D was a good BCam with it's near S35 sensor size - and the 5DMKII was beloved by many due to it's still photography full-frame size. But using the BMC as a Bcam on set might not be as common, as there is a sensor mismatch... but, who knows what'll happen? I think the Cmos jello and moire issues will start to became more prevalent and visible across the 'interweb' once the BMC lands in the hands of less experienced users. Time will tell.

The BMC may produce great images in the right hands, but, as mentioned earlier - it's the hands that are important... for example, check out Kholi's GH2 tests (amongst other cameras he's used).

Anyway, it's Xmas now and the house is filling with the smell of Turkey :)

Have a Happy Xmas everyone!

Actually Jarred came onto the BMCUSER forum and made a trade to acquire a BMCC for his collection of cameras. Nice guy :)

http://bmcuser.com/showthread.php?1587-Whoa-Didn-t-plan-on-this-Got-a-BMC-today/page4

Ill trade you $5000 worth of Scarlet Accessories for it :)

100% Legitimate offer. I am a big fan of what Black Magic has done over the years and wouldn't mind adding one of their cameras to my collection.

Hey you guys all be quiet over there.. you are going the wrong way in price :)

heh heh heh.

I am more than happy to offer a personal tour and a kit-up at Stage 4 at RED Studios. ( Stage 4 is Me and Jim's private "office" @ Red Studios ) I never thought a tour would ever be worth anything but if it will sweeten the deal.. I am all for it!

I will throw in a screening of something on our prototype Laser Projector as well
