Yeah, you're right. Lens choices mean nothing when any lens will do.
No. You have wide range of lenses to choose from which will provide sharp and pleasing pictures. People really like to use old lenses wiht EPIC because the picture is too sharp with modern lenses for many purposes.
Did you watch that vimeo video of BMC in Mexico? What you think about it?
Hey Im allowed![]()
Whatever man. I just know when tequila comes to party you better duck and cover.![]()
Not that it matters now but I think the topic should be re-titled as...BMC vs DSLR
After months of studying this camera (I was bored waiting for it to arrive), and meeting people online with same interests, I've come to the realization that 95% of the future owners are all coming from the DSLRs of all walks e.g. GH2, MKII, etc...
It truly is a killer...a DSLR KILLER!!
Heck they even added a Timelapse option
I look forward to this camera when I can just walk into a Henrys (Canadian prosumer/pro camera shop) and pick one up.
Itll make a great replacement for my Canon PowerShot.
The sensor size is ok. Just use wider lens and you get same framing.
By Scarlet killer I meant a camera that will steal Scarlet customers. If Scarlet costed 3K$ including Side SSD and Canon AL Mount I would propably choose it over BMC.
I'm not planning to buy either of these cameras but when the price difference is so big I can't think that anybody would choose Scarlet over BMC. Bloom also didn't keep EPIC because of the issues it has with ISO etc, but is eagerly waiting the Dragon.
btw I would rather take 5K or even 4K native Dragon EPIC than 6K. I want to shoot full sensor and 6K gives just too much data. Not interested in Scarlet Dragon either (probably not even coming) since it will have same 6K sensor but lower frame rates. Fast frame rates are way more important than resolution beyond 4K for me.
Have you invested a lot of money on Scarlet or what is the reason you are so angry that 3k$ camera produces more beautiful image?
95% of Scarlet owners are coming from DSLR also so you seem to agree that this killed Scarlet too. Have you invested a lot of money on Scarlet or what is the reason you are so angry that 3k$ camera produces more beautiful image?
There's enough resolution for cinema on both. 0,5 more DR is nothing in real life. Sensor size isn't a problem in most cases. Battery options are better for Scarlet sure even though very expensive. Storage options are better for BMC since you can just buy any SSD you want and aren't limited to camera brands expensive SSD's. Desing and frame rates are better on Scarlet.
What matters is which one produces better looking image and that is BMC. Better color, better skintones, better "filmlike" qualities. Deakins shot Skyfall with Alexa, why? Because Alexa looked better than EPIC. He doesn't care what number is before the K. He only cares which camera produces better looking image.
Did I mention that Scarlet costs a lot and I mean a lot more?
Josh not to be an ass but your points and counter-points are rehashed arguments I've witnessed on other user sites regarding the BMC vs <insert any camera brand here>.
Its pointless and find it quite useless for this site.
I come to REDUSER to learn about the cinema and the camera I chose to use.
I don't care about stats, I know the GoPro produces better looking images / skin tones / more "filmlike" than the Black Magic and Scarlet combined. You know how I know this? Because Deakins shot with the Alexa instead of the Epic.
Arguing theoretically subjective opinions (when the numbers suggest otherwise, let alone using a completely irrelevant (and frankly tired) Deakins story as unwarranted support) is fun, huh?
You're a hater. You're here to hate. Enjoy.

It's the overall image that counts and your eyes are the judge. I'm interested in the truth and my eyes don't lie.

There's lot of people who says that the DR between Alexa and EPIC doesn't matter, why aren't you whining about that? 0,5 DR makes no difference. It's the overall image that counts and your eyes are the judge. I'm interested in the truth and my eyes don't lie.
Oh yeah, and BMC can't even get their shit together and release the damn thing.
