  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Scarlet Vs. 5D3 Raw Sharpness Comparison

Ryan, can you give an example of how much space the 5DIII takes up for recording media? (example: 10 minutes of footage = 64Gb of storage.). What is the workflow like on the 5DIII? Are you able to simply drop a recorded file into an NLE?

A lot. I believe it's 13 mins on a 64GB card at full 1080p.

Workflow with GingerHDR ($150 plug-in) & CS6 allows you to drag and drop .RAW files and cut them up like anything else.

For longer shorts & feature films...I'll still be shooting Red for sure (and maybe using 5d3 for creative shots/anything requiring small form factor).

I don't know how close it really is. The 5D has a lot of artifacts in the lines compared to the Scarlet. The Scarlet's lines are very smooth. I mean look at the roof's lines, the cables, the windows, the golf cart roofs, etc.

Not bad, not great. I can think of a lot of situations where a small form factor would come in handy.

Glidecams, lightweight jibs, sliders, suction mounts etc. will be giving the indie world some fantastic, raw money shots!

This is damn impressive!

What a consumer photographic camera can do its amazing, it rivals a proper DCC. Sure workflow is a hassle and at 100 and 200% crops there is some VERY SLIGHT visible artifacts, but do they really matter? If the work I see posted here (with a few exceptions) people were as concerned with content quality, script, editing, shot structure, lighting, etc, as they are with pixel peeping, the work would improve tremendously...

Just sayin'
