  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red scarlet frame rate

And at risk of appearing stupid too.... WHat does frame burst mean ?

It means that the 3K Scarlet will not be able to sustain the 150fps like it will be able to for the 120fps. However, you will be able to cause it to burst up to 150fps for a few seconds.

Of course, all of these specs I mentioned are subject to change before final release.

Ok, thanks^^

Another stupid question : why the cheaper ones can go higher in frame rate ? (and do the burts cause any damage to the camera or something like that ?)

This may be of some help. ;)

No, the burst does not have any harmful effect. The cheaper cameras are shooting at only a fraction of the resolution that the 5K and 6K scarlets will do.

Really, the difference between the 5K Scarlet and EPIC-X is their frame rates. You can really see how much more expensive frame rates get with that comparison. :)

I find it smart to buy the Scarlet and only rent the EPIC brain when it comes necessary. As each of the DSMC brains interchange so easily, the transition on set and in post workflow will be harmonious.

So if I want to shot for a slow motion film, scarlet won´t be the ideal camera?

Scarlet will be the best camera for slow motion because of it's higher frame rate. It's 3K sensor will have less information to process than the 4K and up cameras so I assume that's why it can capture more FPS.

No. For the money, the 3K camera will be the best brain to shoot slow motion. It is limited to 120fps with a 150fps. This is enough overcranking for me. It allows me to slow my shots down to 20%. (of course you can do more than that but will have jerkiness during your playback).

Those who didn't have a RED One prior to the cutoff date will be able to buy the EPIC S35 (brain only) for what I believe the cost of $28,000.

You can see in the (probably now outdated) specs sheet above, the added benefits of the EPIC as well as the trade-offs that you get with the various Scarlet/EPIC brains in the DSMC lineup.
