NASA forced to abandon plans for 3D camera in next Mars rover...

"Among the many great feats of his career, film director James Cameron counts the rather unorthodox achievement of being able to convince NASA to use a stereoscopic camera on its next Mars rover project. Unfortunately for him, us, and the hard working folks over at Malin Space Science Systems, technical snags have been encountered in the integration of the jumbo mastcam (pictured above) with the rover's hardware and the resulting delays have caused NASA to nix the idea altogether..."

If Red could spare a pair of Scarlet for the NASA Mars Rover since it looks like your solution is much smaller and wouldn't require the JUMBO mastcam? I think that'd be nice footage for the demo reel...

PS. Could we see some 3D Scarlet footage, maybe that would convince NASA also? (I have to try)

So wait, what you're saying is NASA who has BILLIONS and BILLIONS in tax dollars and some of the brightest scientific and engineering minds in the country can figure out how to send a multimillion dollar robot from earth and LAND IT ON MARS... but they can't figure out how to attach a 3D camera to it...

?

I'm confused because the official release on MSSS's site makes it sound like it's the zoom lens system that's being nixed in favor of a prime system (like previous rovers which all had 3D camera systems). Does this actually affect the cameras themselves?
