Okay, so....when the camera is set to shoot in 4K 16:9, AND the frame guides are set to 16:9 (NOT full gate), does anyone know the settings for Red Rushes to get the processed QT clips (1080P DNxHD 36) to match the rack leader that was shot on set based on the above listed settings??

Chris,

If you fit to width there should be no problem, but the scaling is not as precise as if you shoot 4K HD which makes for perfect math on the conversion.

When scaling to HD in Apple Color you need to set teh geometry tool to 2.13 to get the 4K to fit very closely, so you have to figure out that ratio in RedRushes.

Call me if you want. It think you have my number but Manny would have it too.

fit width doesn't do it. when shooting 4K 16:9, fit width and fit height BOTH give the same result, the FULL GATE framing. this weird little 16:9 frame guide (that takes a little of the sides AND the top and bottom) will not process properly with any of the 'stock' settings in RED Rushes (at least in my tests). there must be some settings to add in the 'crop' window, but i am not sure what those are.......

Try this.

Crop to 1920x1080
Scale to 1920x1080

You have to trick it into placing the whole frame inside the 1920x1080 frame.

and by the way david, i just loaded a drive here on set yesterday, and the footage that came up was.....ripper hockey. looks good man.

What?

Those folks aren't wipe'n drive over there! Thanks Chris. Cool. Wow, thats funny!

the double 1920 X 1080 does not work either.

i am playing with the crop settings, but cannot for the life of me find that 'magic number' for the origin X, origin Y, width and height. I have 27 outputs here all with different settings. some get close, but none hit the mark.

anyone??

Why on earth would you not frame for full gate?

That said, I have a frame leader somewhere here that was aligned to that 16:9 inside 16:9 marker. I'll see if I can dig it up.

i have to process to 1080p......any idea how that would affect it??

they framed for this because the DP wanted a 'lookaround' area....i know, i know, there already is a look-around area outside the full gate. i wish RED never released these 16:9 within 16:9 frame guides as an option. i HATE them.
